Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

Hey up, just a quick message about the Alpkit Jaran 2: https://www.alpkit.com/products/jaran-2 1.9kg @ £140 (or £155 with footprint) Seems like a decent tent for almost £200 less than the Hubba Hubba HP/NX. It's just, well, erm, blue for some strange reason! Why didn't they just make it a lichen/mos...

Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

Oh gosh! I hope he is up there fighting for his life and still alive, not giving up! I was joking about Mt Cook earlier - I understand what kind of mountaineering challenge it is - I wouldn't have been so care-free had I known that Mr Hunter Dowell was stuck on the mountain. I really hope that he su...

Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

Hi JackRabbitSlims, are you a Kiwi or just travelling there? My big plan is to get over to NZ to cycle travel during the UK winter. I've read that the weather can really kick up a fuss at times during the summer, particularly in the South Island, that's part of the reason I wanted to get a HP, plus ...

Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

[quote="pjclinch"]Have a crawl around one and decide for yourself: hamster reckons it's fine for two, I think it has a pretty pokey porch for one, we're each right from our own perspectives, neither one is necessarily yours... Pete.[/quote I wish I could try out a few tents - I did manage ...

Alright, that's really good to know. Were you able to keep your gear in the vestibule? Would you say you were happy with the size and shape of the Voyager?

Thanks for your reply.

Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

Oh, I nearly forgot to mention, I read a good review of the Vaude Hogan ultralite 2p tent by Tom Allen - he used this tent in all weather conditions!! Seems like a great tent for well under £200. Oh Oh! I have just seen a TN Laser Competition on sale for £260! At this rate I am going to end up just ...

Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

Hi guys, hope you are all keeping well! Still looking for a tent - haha! I've just found a Terra Nova Superlite Voyager for a very good price and I really like the look of the tent - my only concern is if there is enough room for all the panniers? I don't know if this has been mentioned earlier in t...

Re: What would you do with down?

Thanks for all your advice and suggestions. I had to run this past the community to see what others thought of this scheme of mine! I forgot to mention in my first post that I only intended to use the down to insulate around the chest, upper back and possibly around the hood rather than tackling the...

What would you do with down?

Hi guys, I recently pulled an old Lowe Alpine down jacket from the loft. It is a large puffer jacket full to the brim with down. The idea has been bouncing around my head to take all the down out of jacket and carefully swap it for some of the synthetic material in my sleeping bag. I don't actually ...

Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

Hi Pete, yes, I know they are very different tents, indeed. I have had the honour of borrowing a Nallo 2 GT to try out at home - a great guy at work just thought it would be a good idea to see how it feels, knowing that it compares to the Nitro Lite 200+ for size. You could probably even fit a Hubba...

Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

Another very good comment, Pete. It always seems to fall back to the Hubba Hubba HP! I think I would be more than happy with that tent for both touring and hiking. Now you've gone and done, gently tossed a spanner into the works, just when I was setting my sights on the nitro+ verdammte internet for...

Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

If I had the money that would be the exact tent I would buy. I would assume the price differential is part due to euro pound exchange rate, part to local taxes and part to rip off Britain ;) German stuff is a lot cheaper at present due to the exchange rate shifts earlier this year. As to 'rip off B...

Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

Milletts have 15% off everything today. Including tents... Thanks for that. Only the TN polar lite interested me over there, though. I read a few reviews of the Force Ten nitro lite 200+ yesterday and it does seem like a very good tent, not perfect but excellent in many ways - spacious, can be used...

Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

Pete, great advice again. I think you and my friend at work could talk tents for an eternity! He used to work for an outdoor outlet in Ambleside and was a cycle tourer for many years. From what I gathered, he owns about 6 tents! What I loved about talking to him yesterday was his overall enthusiasm ...

Re: Trouble deciding on a tent upgrade

Yeah, very good points. I almost didn't bother including that part about the damage done to the Voyager in Wales, precisely because of the things you have said. Just a quick thank you to everyone contributing to this thread - I am finding all the input very helpful and hopefully it will help me to m...
