We too started with a trailer then went to a child seat on the pannier rack but I always rode with a front rack for the panniers otherwise the bike handled very oddly. Just seen this hope my reply isn’t too late.
The road to Port Bannatyne is effectively flat. There are cars especially if the ferry has just got in but sight lines are good and we have cycled along it many times with our children (now age 8 and 13).

If you look at Oban Marina Isle of Kerrera website there should be details about a garage in Oban where boat owners leave their cars for a fee. The garage may be willing to let you leave your campervan with them. Alternatively the car park next to the swimming pool in Oban does long stay car parking...

Help! Folding instructions for 1970s Micro Folding Bike

I've just bought a 1970s micro folding bike manufactured by MCL Coleshill England, it seems fairly straightforward to fold but wondered what you are meant to do with the handlebars when the bike is folded up. Do they remove and clip against the frame? Can any forum members advise please? Many thanks...
