Re: First time in Netherlands on a road bike

Hi
We have done sections of both these routes in the last 2 weeks both contained short sections of gravel but nothing that our touring bikes even with narrow road bike tyres couldn’t cope with while fully loaded. Well over 95% are tarmac.
Worth buying the map book “Basiskaart network LF routes” as it has amazing maps with roads and cycle routes shown. You might need to buy online from Netherlands but it usually comes within a few days.

Baby bike seat and pannier bags

We too started with a trailer then went to a child seat on the pannier rack but I always rode with a front rack for the panniers otherwise the bike handled very oddly. The front pannier frame and bags evened out the weight and aside from being heavy it felt like my bike handled like normal.
Once age 3.5years our children graduated to a tandem and I still ride this with our youngest (now age 8) so we can vaguely keep up with her brother age 13 on longer rides and cyclocamping tours.

Re: Family cycling on Isle of Bute

Hi
Just seen this hope my reply isn’t too late.
The road to Port Bannatyne is effectively flat. There are cars especially if the ferry has just got in but sight lines are good and we have cycled along it many times with our children (now age 8 and 13).

Re: Safe parking in Oban

If you look at Oban Marina Isle of Kerrera website there should be details about a garage in Oban where boat owners leave their cars for a fee. The garage may be willing to let you leave your campervan with them.
Alternatively the car park next to the swimming pool in Oban does long stay car parking, we haven't heard of any problems and we have left our car there without issue previously. However there is no obvious security around it. Liz

Help! Folding instructions for 1970s Micro Folding Bike

I've just bought a 1970s micro folding bike manufactured by MCL Coleshill England, it seems fairly straightforward to fold but wondered what you are meant to do with the handlebars when the bike is folded up. Do they remove and clip against the frame?

Can any forum members advise please?

Many thanks
