Re: where can I buy a bike box in Nice

I flew my bike home with Easyjet Nice-Bristol June 2016 and at that time bought a cardboard box and tape from a baggage wrapping outfit on the ground floor in the Departure terminal. Sorry if this information is now historic!

Re: First time UK!

Just to avoid confusion, should our visitor be researching the Gospel Path, it is in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Should he care to continue North, meandering through bucolic Marcher country, he would encounter historic and landscape appeal in buckets!

Re: The passing of the pristine country lane

Increasingly, a lot of verge destruction reflects changes in agriculture practise. Amalgamation of land holdings results in a lot of remote management and greater distances travelled by larger and larger farm machinery under greater time pressure. With absolute off-road potential tractors, frequentl...

Re: Best days for StMalo–Nice tour?

Left St Malo May 15th last year routing 'France en Velo' and had a great trip, climate wise! Fresh in the North and although getting warmish down South, still very comfortable. Camped all way although probably half suggested municipal sites were closed but still usable. One advantage of this time in...

Re: cycle to santander

Think it might be differentiation between BF 'economie' and 'cruise' on this Portsmouth-Santander route! Attempted to book, on line, economie for early May '17 and kept generating error message. Phoned up to be informed that no automatic on line bike option on economie but could be made available at...

Re: St Malo to Nice - best accommodation strategy?

'France en Velo' route mid May as a light-weight camper (tent, bag airmat, no cooking) for 11 nights in May and even then Dordogne and Ardeche pretty busy! I went prepared to spontaneously B&B but despite rain found the recommended campsites (mainly Municipal) were all great, although one or two...

Re: Continental touring and Japanese Knotweed

Damage and cost for property owners as above. Environmental damage, as with many invasive imports, no native control. Back on the slopes of Mt Fugi, Japan co-exist a number of predatory beetles and fungi which keep it in check. Over here in Blighty where it is now ubiquitous along both road and ripa...

Re: GPS routes for France en Velo St Malo-Nice route

Got back week last Wed thanks, was 14 fantastic days to include ride down to Portsmouth! Took exactly 1hr 55mins to get back to Bristol from Nice- ain't it real! It's a great route and I'm sure your son will have a great time but tell him not to wear his 3 Lions shirt and steer clear of Marseille! D...

Re: GPS routes for France en Velo St Malo-Nice route

Well thanks all for all your useful advice. The book is really good, particularly as an informative travel guide but will be left behind on that coffee table due to its weight! GPS files are indeed available at the 'riding with gps' site and will hopefully prove idiot proof once I get started.

GPS routes for France en Velo St Malo-Nice route

I'm embarking on this route end of next week and have just spent an evening cutting out relevant pages from a 2011 easy read AA road atlas for France as my natural preference is a map and the Mk 1 eyeball. But it occurs to me that with my Motorola Android phone with Dynamo charger I might profitably...
