Re: Travel Insurance

Probably seems best to just ring them up and get a specific quote from them, shop around and find the best deal.

Re: What shoes do you use for long distance touring?

Kung fu slippers for off the bike and SPD shoes on it. KF slippers weigh a big over 200 grams, take up little space and dry quickly. I'm a trendy consumer. Just look at my stupid phone. Kung fu skippers are a great idea! As much as the idea of one pair of shoes for every occasion appeals to the lig...

Re: Travel Insurance

So what's the crack with just getting normal travel insurance and hoping your bike doesn't get nicked? That you end up with a huge bill if you crash or someone knocks you down, if your insurance excludes cycle touring or has a short trip length. Thought as much. Maybe I'm just a stingy bugger think...

Morocco and fly back.

Planned this one out but ended up cycling to the Alps for work instead.

Looks an incredible and varied route and easily doable in 2 months!

Re: What shoes do you use for long distance touring?

Shimano Sandals. The climate decides what else I wear on my feet. In summer or hot conditions I go bare footed or thin ankle socks, in winter I use Sealskinz socks. I like the look of these as my feet are like radiators. The only thing that is off putting is in a few reviews I've read, they say the...

Re: What to do with panniers and kit when touring?

Other than keeping valuables in one place and having it on you at all times, the best way to minimise theft is where you leave your gear. Going out? Keep it in your hotel room/tent. Having lunch? Eat outside or by a window where you can keep your bike in sight. Shopping for dinner? Pick a shop with ...

What shoes do you use for long distance touring?

My first I wore flip flops. Second, I chucked my trainers after a few days of them being sodden and bought some cheap slip ons from a H&M in Austria. My most recent jaunt I borrowed some SPDS. Come end of the monsoon season I'll be setting off on a loop of SE Asia and cannot for the life in me d...

Re: Travel Insurance

Sorry to piggyback but seems appropriate rather than starting a new thread.

I'm doing a 7 month tour around SE Asia and trying to figure out insurance. Anyone done a similar length trip with advice about insurance?

Best airlines to fly with bikes (Asia/Australia)

Hi guys,
Booking a flight to OZ for next May and was wondering if anyone had advice/tips/experience on who to fly with?
Been researching for a while and mostly find out of date/conflicting advice.
Cheers!

Re: Cycling To India from Scottish Highlands

So surprised about people's bad experiences/viewpoint about the practicality of doing such a route. I've only ever done long distance in Europe but done a helluva lot of research and it seems loads of people do it? Iran seemed like it's pretty open to solo travel recently? From all the current cgoab...

Re: Cycling To India from Scottish Highlands

While researching for my own trip in a few years (UK-Oz) it doesn't seem unrealistic at all to bike what you suggest. Although things can change rapidly, UK citizens can get visas for pretty much every country going. My proposed route starting in March from Venice goes through Georgia/Armenia/Iran/T...

Re: Vietnam Highway 1

Absolute gold dust guys, thanks for that! Love the idea of a coastal ride for a but but also don't want to be subject to rubbish riding in between stops. Great route. Just need to figure out N. Vietnam now! One last question, any places on the way that you feel are a must to see or stop for the nigh...
