Re: Diesel - seriously thinking of giving up cycling

Take a look at some of the pics in this article. Look at the ones on public streets. Then imagine if there were lots of charging points, and the effect on a blind person crossing the road and having to re-mount the pavement between two parked cars plugged in to a shared charging point. Or, as someo...

Banff Film Festival 2018

Nothing to do with me, but for info as it looks like the sort of thing some might find interesting, the Banff film Festival is on tour. It's already started as the various locations start mid-Jan and end mid-May. Never seen one/any before so I cannot personally recommend the events. It appears there...

Re: Alsatian dog attack

...... The local station really does have a DLO [ Dog Legislation Officer ] who has attended the depot, and seen the Guard Dogs public warning signs, and warned and briefed the depot 'dog handler '. I'm sure the event of having the police get involved, and attend his place of work, will scar his me...

Re: Alsatian dog attack

But there is a sign saying Guard Dogs? Will the owner be removing it is there isn't a guard dog, one wonders? There are many signs around the place intended to discourage rather than state that something is present e.g. should Highways Authorities go round removing all the little speed camera signs...

Re: BBC Pay - more than the PM!

...... The Leeds version of Look North really is a job creation scheme eg they persist with two presenters reading alternate sentences from the autocue. ...... I suspect a lot of the BBC local 18:30-19:00 magazine programs are the same. The "Look East"s" I've seen are just as daft wi...

Re: Is time trialling to be banned on dual carriageways (A63)

Cycling UK petition https://action.cyclinguk.org/page/20163/action/1?ea.tracking.id=CLIPS This is just the sort of thing CUK should be doing far more often. It's the 1st time I've been aware of them doing this for these types of issue. It's low cost (once such a system is setup) and hopefully quite...

Re: The blood suckers circle around when the pickings are rich

Maybe on topic, maybe a bit off-topic but what really really really angers me is the basis these fund managers are paid. I appreciate they need to be paid an income but they always seem to base their charges on the capital invested rather than the return they earn! They get the same reward/earnings ...

Re: Padded shorts

I have a pair of the lose (more "normal", less "lycra lout") MTB cycling shorts but they are the two part ones you don't like i.e. outer lose shorts with an inner padded meshy/thin inside thing. The inside paded yjing does have popers to fit and become "parts of" the ou...

Re: Transporting Bike - Roof/Towbar/Boot mounted

Just fitted the Thule ProRide 598 (not been for a drive yet) and: the comments about bikes flopping around are very true - I would not want to drive around with the bike only held down/up by the Thule 598. But add straps (not supplied) seat post to roof bar (ends) each side makes a massive differenc...

Re: BBC Pay - more than the PM: If you look at the calibre of PMs we had in recent years I think the person at my local supermarket checkout deserves more pay than any of our recent PMs. Much as I dislike Amazon, the pickers at Amazon's warehouse(s) make fewer mistakes than the PMs we had in recent ...

Went for a roof one. Only collected it today so not yet tried it. But thanks for the ideas.

Re: The vultures circlearound when the pickings are rich

Pensions are one of my biggest bugbears. On the one hand you get 'free' money whether it be employer contributions or tax advantages but on the other you can't deal directly with the pension companies and the "advisers" have their greedy mits on your money for as long as possible. ...... ...
