Re: Whether to split the thread 'Cycling using trains (in UK and EU)'

And the search engine on this site is pretty good.
Yes it is but we regularly witness examples of people never using it. Take a visit to Fb and read the continual stupid questions, Is there a hairdressers, When does ** open? etc Using a search engine must be a black art to some. :D

I'd split the thread purely for personal reasons. After deciding, years ago, I was never going to ride PBP I have zilch interest in riding in Europe. Living where I do and as someone who will never fly I consider it too much hassle and expense to get there. Whilst envious of some of the train services in Europe I’m only interested in U.K. trains.

I have never heard agendum used in common English parlance other than ironically.

Re: New britains-best-bike-ride lejog guide?

Looks like an interesting route especially as a 21 day tour. The 14 day would have me on my knees.
As they say in the intro it’s not for anyone with an eye on the time.

Re: New handlebar choice

I have one bike with Geoff bars. The bike came with flat bars which I couldn’t achieve any real milage without some pain. I like the Geoff bars as there endless hand/ body positions. It’s the favoured bike if there is going to be any distance of rough stuff.
I have bar bag mounts on my drop barred bikes but I’ve not bothered with this one. I use a dry bag hung within the ring that’s created with the bars which satisfies my need of easy access to food, money, etc.

Re: Max Heart Rate (Setting & Meaning)

Those variations must be disappointing. I’ve used a monitor for 30 yrs using chest straps Sunto , Wahoo, and latterly a Polar H10. A few years ago I tried a wrist Scosche and was very disappointed with it. So much so I got my money back.
Around a year ago I got an Apple Watch 8 and was very sceptical about its HR capability. For a few weeks I’d also wear my Polar chest on rides and I’d compare the figures. Nothing more than one beat between them and agreed with each other for entire rides. The Polar chest strap now sits on a shelf. I should Ebay it.

Sniping software is cleverer than the punters who think they can outgame the system by frantically upping their maximum bid in the final moments of the auction.
Yes but is it’s bid so late that EBay’s automated bid hasn’t time to work? I doubt it.

Recently featured on GCN a double front disc which they liked a lot.

SimonCelsa wrote: 12 Mar 2024, 4:45am Yes, but surely you would still have 'won' it without the sniping software if you had just entered your maximum bid at the outset??
That's not how auctions work though.

In fact if I saw someone stick a bid of £30 on it straight away, I'd assume it was some sort of troll or bot.
That’s not how Ebay works. Ebay puts on automatic bids for the buyer. You as the seller will only see my highest bid and never my maximum.
When you're ready to bid on an auction listing, enter the maximum amount you'd like to pay for the item and select Place bid. We'll then bid in increments on your behalf – enough to keep you in the lead, but only up to your limit.
If you are selling and saw the item jump from £5 to £30 that’s because someone else had bid £29.

Re: Max Heart Rate (Setting & Meaning)

I can’t comment at all about anything Garmin.
With my Apple Watch my cycling is always 4 cal/ minute, playing badminton is always 5 cals/ minute.
Max HR playing badminton is usually 134, Max HR cycling is never above 124 At some point a spike registered around 170 and if I were to allow AW to set the zones then it uses this spike and makes zones useless. I’ve edited my zones to a max of 134 and a min of 42 and all feels right.
