Re: Drawing pins

I can't recall ever having a puncture caused by a drawing pin so I would say that your experience is unlikely to be down to bad luck. Unless you cycle past a pin factory then someone is deliberately causing the punctures. You could check your tyres before and after each journey to try to find the so...

Quick question as a side issue. Do you use the banshee 300 for 1 or 2 folk?

There is two of us. It is supposed to be for 3 but it would be very cramped.

I simply wrap my Banshee 300 in a strong polythene rubble sack. When the tent is wet I don't use the sack to allow it to dry whilst travelling.

Re: Best route to cycle over the Alps- North to South?

Hi. As a route to Italy take a look at the Via Francigena... a route from Canterbury to Rome used since the time of the Roman empire and by pilgrims to Rome for a thousand years or so. It takes you across the alps via the Grand Saint Bernards pass and then down the Aosta valley to the northern plain...

Re: Nice / Pisa to Barcelona

Ive done this route from Pisa to Nice. Don't miss Pisa then Lucca... a gem. From Lucca follow minor inland route through Massa and Sarzana. Don't be tempted by the coast road here as it is developed, busy and boring. I then passed through La Spezia and through the Cinque Terra to Levanto but be warn...

Re: The Francigena Way :Canterbury-Rome pilgrim's path

My wife and I did this in Aug Sept of 2014 after we retired. It was a great experience. I recommend that you join the Confraternity of Pilgrims to Rome so that you are able to stay in pilgrim accommodation such as monasteries etc. The route I followed was based on the walking route with a few modifi...

Re: Wild Atlantic Way

I did a tour in April and May of 2014 that included the WAW. Very enjoyable. The roads were quiet but I understand that it can get busy in the summer with camper vans etc. Not sure what you want to know but camp sites and hostels are plentiful but you will be need to book ahead in the summer months....

Re: RE: Re: What bike did you use?

I'm just starting my initial phase of planning for a future LEJOG or JOGLE which is why I've been reading this forum. Reading the above I found it interesting that AndyJ mentioned broken spoke issues with his Genesis bike. I have a 2014 Genesis Day One Alfine 8 and yesterday I suffered from what is...

Re: Cannondale Synapse

What load are you intending to carry? How fit and strong are you? If you are very fit and carrying little in the way of luggage then it would cope... But ... Personally I wouldn't use a road bike for a long trip because the gears are far too high and I carry a full load ... camping equipment etc... ...

Re: What bike did you use?

I used a specialized Sirrus comp. It's not really intended for fully loaded touring but it copes OK.

Re: Booking bikes on trains

I did the same in May but in reverse using the National Rail Enquiries app. You can reserve a bike space on this. Enjoy your tour.

Re: Istanbul and cycle home.

Hi rob Sounds like a good tour plan you have. I'm thinking of a similar trip home from turkey in early may but returning via greece and the adriatic coast maybe???..perhaps turning north to pick up the ev6 somewhere.... not sure yet. Out of interest, can i ask who you are flying with and rough costs...

Re: help with a route

1. As a resident of oxford, I will echo the previous comments about avoiding the oxford canal towpath. 2. I cycled from oxford to w. London last august following a fairly direct route across the chiltern hills to the thames at marlow. I recall 1 long hill where we got off and pushed (after nettlebed...
