Re: Isle of Mull or Isle of Skye over five days?

Thank you all for the recommendations and Paul the fantastic photograph of Iona. Indeed you're wisdom regarding wanting to return and going back over old ground, is sound advice. I have five days and not precious about route/time other than needing be in Inverness on the fifth day. I did consider th...

Re: Getting bike back from John O'Groats

I would second http://www.johnogroatsbiketransport.co.uk/index.php At the beginning of June, they picked me and two others from JoG, took us Inverness (where they're based) and then I left my bike in the back of the van so that they could take it back to their shop, where it was promptly packaged ne...

Re: Isle of Mull or Isle of Skye over five days?

Thank you for those very useful suggestions. Now tweaked my route to Mull instead of Skye based on less tourists and hopefully less midges (I will be taking two cans of Smidge and ASSS to keep the pests at bay) with a ride back up to Inverness via a small part of Skye instead. Part 1 Fort William to...

Isle of Mull or Isle of Skye over five days?

I know there are numerous posts on this topic as I've read many, but having recently completed my LeJoG, I've decided to return to Scotland for a bit of solo cycle-tour camping, as my experience was simply magical (though missed the western Highlands - Altnaharra being the most westerly I got). With...

Re: Route 3 Tiverton to Glastonbury

If you're on road tyres (25s like I was) you'll find the Taunton to Bridgwater a little tough if it's muddy. I want along it on Day 2 of my LeJoG (day before yesterday) and found it well signed - it is a canal and only one side of it has a path. The route was dry and the majority was grit. When larg...

Re: Turbo trainer

Honesty My son also has CI and I purchased a Bkool trainer last year to get fit for my LeJoG ride that I'm presently doing (Day 3) for the NDCS and our local deaf group. It uses an electro-magnet and I use it in the garage, where no sensible 2yr old should venture. I've not noticed any issues using ...

Midges, live track and thank you

So I start my LeJoG on Thursday with the train to Penzance. Before I set off, I've got a few final questions and a statement. Will the midges have started biting in Scotland when I arrive on 28th May, I seem to be particularly enjoyable feast for many mosquitoes/ midges, so I need to ask. I have som...

Re: LeJog routing and solo-ride luggage query

pwa,

Thank you for your response on the SQR Tour/ Slim, I've just taken receipt and will take on board your comments and shimmy at 40mph is not nice. I'd already considered swapping out the carbon post for an alloy, hadn't considered the thickness of alloy, but will do so.

Thanks again.

Re: LeJog routing and solo-ride luggage query

Moonboy Thank you for your suggestions. The Cornish and Devon detours are excellent recommendations; I haven't been to Lizard Point or Cheddar Gorge since I was a child. I will amend my route to include Wye Valley as well. I was hoping to 'stroll' up to Duncasby Head when I'm done... though I'm not ...

LeJog routing and solo-ride luggage query

Dear CTC forum, As an avid reader for many years, I would like to ask some advice on my latest challenge, a solo LeJog in June. I have read many posts/ blogs/ books on the great ride and have decided to undertake the challenge in 11 days, I want to enjoy it. There are many routes available, but I re...

Re: Advice on 2 man tent please...

A few years back I purchased the MSR Hubba Hubba in USA. You can buy from Campmor.com for around £120. They might be able to ship to UK.
It's a brilliantly robust lightweight tent and perfect for cycle touring.
