Is my bike acceptable, has it got the right saddle and number of gears and panniers and what tyres does everyone else use and what handlebars should i have and how should i dress and h...

Re: Helmet debate Radio 2 lunchtime today

Yes I absolutely agree. I have never worn a cycle helmet except where compelled by the rules at mountain bike events, I don't like them and I don't think they add to my safety. My argument against helmet compulsion would be based on the last point - they do not provide a significant safety benefit,...

Re: Cross levers with V Brakes and Dia Compe Levers?

Assuming you're using dia-compe 287vs for the drop lever, a quick and dirty hack for the cross tops would be to bend them outwards! I do that with my MB levers anyway as i have long fingers... :D

Re: Folding Bikes

Bromptons have the 'best' fold, no question - as in the smallest and easiest to lug around when folded. At the other end of the scale are airnimal and montague. Take too long to fold for a day to day commute but ride like a full size bike, because they are. I get on well with my Dahon Jack, but the ...

The whole 'don't call a truckie on it when he tries to splat you or he might might bully you more' thing annoys me so much. Maybe we should all know our place and skulk along in the gutter? Sod that for a packet of biscuits. Enshrined in LAW i've got more right to be on the road than these semi-evol...

I'm happy with my Dahon Jack. S'got inverted on-one mary bars with tape on, and will have clip-on aeros as well when i send the cheque off, 7 gears with a wide range are plenty, V-brakes are monster in pretty much all conditions with the right brake pads. Maxxis Holy Roller tyres for off-road and da...

Hiya I'm on prozac again after being diagnosed with a variety of fun mentalnesses... I'm 'lucky' in that i'm on the cusp between depressive and bi-polar which means i get highs as well as lows. the main thing i've found is that its kind of more like a disability mixed with an addiction than an illne...

Just to throw another spanner in.. :D Dutch bikes - forget it if you've got a hill. Depending on how much you'd want to spend, and taking in the rigours of a long commute, i think you need an old skool rigid MTB like this one If you can absolutely guarantee 100% that you're not likely to find yourse...
