Re: are electric assist bikes the future ?????
My eZee sprint gave good service. Two new batteries in four years though proved expensive.
Chopped it in for Sports electric and that was fine until it wasn't.
£180 for new battery plus £90 for annual service was a bill too far and led me to take an offer on it from the dealer I bought it 2nd hand from.
E bikes do make the hills flatter but cost-wise a regular bike makes economic sense if you don't 'need' pedal-assist.

There are few finer rides out than an early morning spin along our deserted promenade then home for breakfast.
As an older retired chap finding that I have to rise quite early these days a nice ride, with the sun just up; redeems the morning.

Re: Cycling Weekly's sub editor blunder
That caption in the Comic was in poor taste as was reflected in the following week's apologetic editorial.
Move on.
IMO the Comic isn't what it once was but there's enough of interest in there most weeks to keep me buying it.
Hutch, on form; can be worth the cover price alone.

Public sector job ads keep the Graun ticking over.
Awful paper otherwise.

They do have that workshop handbook on line and it's most informative.
Frankly I have rather been frightened off putting my head above the parapet on this one.
If nobody is organiser then no one is liable beyond their own insurance cover.
That's an individual choice.
I have the CUK member 3rd party cover, others may not.
We'll probs just carry on 'as is' in optimism.

Re: Religion(sorry)we've been debating politricks and I..
A sad reflection on our times indeed.
The parish church in the village next to ours was always open during the day and badly vandalised last year.
Currently closed pending repairs and unlikely to reopen of a day time in future.
Larger and more visited churches do still tend to be open and have someone on duty keeping an eye on things.

Horses for courses innit?
My mate has a bike that feels to weigh marginally less than does the Brooks B33 saddle on my Pashley. It cost him new five times more than my bike did me.
Thing of beauty it is too and gets him there fast.
For slowly bimbling about though then a Pashley's yer man for the job.
If not bikes, what else would we spend on?

The memsahb and I are both born and raised Anglicans hence, not at all religious.
For interesting parish churches to pop into on a bike ride, rites of passage , excellent Easter, Harvest and Christmas services you really cannot beat our dear old CofE.

Re: Advice Please on informal group riding
Good points there. I've had a look at Cuk Affiliation and it is a tad ambiguous to say the least.
If it's so opaque at the beginning, Gods alone knows what it might be like should a claim arise.
Along the lines of it being easier to seek forgiveness rather than ask permission we may simply continue with our informal weekly bimbles-out on our bikes.
Were I to organise insurance than I might become personally liable as some sort of 'leader-organiser' which I am not nor seek to be.

Re: Advice Please
Thanks all for the helpful replies.
Looks like CUK Affiliation is the way to go for peace of mind.
I'm sure the Village Hall recreation fund will spring for a one-off starter £75 towards a good cause. Running a football card or similar once a month should find the renewal.
Much obliged to all.

Advice Please on informal group riding
Does anyone know what the legal/insurance requirements might be for an informal, but advertised locally; weekly ride out for a group of retired people on any and all sorts of bicycles?
Nothing sportive, just a sociable, mid-weekly ride out from our Village Hall to a cake stop and back at a gentle pace along country roads.
Possibly a dozen or so.
Many thanks in anticipation.

JC in today's Sunday Times comments that they had intended for a Britain v Argentina car football match as the conclusion to the Christmas Special they've been filming in South America but that now..." We have something much better."
He also said that had he chosen the numberplate he would have opted for " W3WON"
I enjoy Top Gear especially the overseas specials.

On the road bike.
The search for a nation's cycling soul.
By Ned Boulting that cycling commentator guy off the telly.
Just finished it, jolly good read and laugh out loud funny in parts.
