Re: YHA prices: steep increase in the pipeline!

Price was for a double room for one person with a private bathroom and it was a Saturday night. Yha was the same price for a bunk bed in a dorm ie both 35 quid. No brainer! Bargain! There are some about, my point was merely that it isn't typical, whereas the YHA price is. Even better I found an Air...

Re: Camping spares

Yes that's the one. The drawstring as you can see is on the side rather than the end so it opens up sideways. Don't like it. The tent is squeezed neatly and tightly into the old style bag at the factory. All neat and nice - until you come to pack it away yourself and you cannot get the sausage back...

Re: Camping spares

I'm not sure I quite understand. This Vango bag looks like a standard tent bag, but I guess it's what you bought? I've bought Terra Nova ones previously for Scout three-person tents, but ours are not the smallest. Bags and Covers Direct offer to make to order (never tried them). EBay ones are mostl...

Traffic calming

It occurred to me that pretty much all traffic calming eg chicanes, traffic Islands etc are bad news for cyclists as they create pinch points which can cause bad drivers to try and pass you when it is not safe to do so.

Camping spares

Anyone know where to get camping spares - namely a new tent bag as my previous one is a bit worn out and leaks. Plus I need some of those little stretchy loop things that you use to peg the flysheet down. I guess I could use cable ties in an emergency but they don't stretch so would probably just sn...

Re: Who are the best/worst drivers on the road?

Still think for sheer contempt and disregard for other road users it's Highway Maintenance vehicles. Any examples? I think they have a very hazardous job and are often abused and threatened by motrons Minusplus? Most of my experiences of them are as a car driver. As they are bigger than you they wi...

A prosecution and hefty claim will also rightly make the driver's insurance sky rocket. Without that the premium might not be affected.

Re: Builders/lorries: are they allowed to park on cycle lanes?

You haven't explained what the small collision was. Did you hit him or did he hit you? You're not explaining ourself very well and as a result it's not very clar what the problem is. If a lorry needs to unload at a given address then it needs to park there whilst doing so. Sorry guys, I thought wha...

Re: A London question

As a Londoner now in exile in the home counties, when I cycle in London it always strikes me how chaotic it is. Narrow streets, lots of parked cars, vehicles unloading. I'm not surprised there are so many casualties.

Re: cyclist knocked of headon with car cutting corners while turning into side road

Should be a prosecution, end of. Careless driving minimum. Plus the cyclist should claim for any possible personal injury and damage to bike, clothing, equipment etc. There is a tendency to say we wouldn't have done that etc out himself in a vulnerable position but we shouldn't have to put up with d...

Re: A positive thread

Lovely ride this morning, sunny throughout and no incidents. Not far from.home there is quite a nasty right turn from a main road on a hi!!.I saw an HGV behind going fairly slowly so I took primary to execute the right turn. He hung back so I put my arm up to acknowledge this. He acknowledged this w...
