Re: Round the world(not me)

The Finnish couple vlogs on YouTube are great! Follow their RTW trip from the comfort of your sofa :D
Plus the lassie is quite easy on the eye

Re: Polecamping in Netherlands

I did seek one of these out in the forests south of Breda recently. It was very tucked out of the way and fairly inaccessible. When I did find it I thought it was pretty pointless. It had all the drawbacks of wild camping ie no facilities but several neighbours in close proximity so none of the posi...

Re: One solution to tailgating?

Look ahead to spot the slow vehicle in time, leave a big gap, slow down! Traffic already on the motorway has priority, joining drivers must give way, even stop Incorrect. A/ Use the slip road to accelerate until your speed matches that of the traffic on the motorway. B/ you must not stop on a slip ...

Re: One solution to tailgating?

Stopping as the slip road joined the motorway was an extremely dangerous thing for this driver to do. It didn't help that the width of the slip road was limited due to roadworks. I had two choices - either to hang back and stop in the slip road myself but this would have required me to be psychic an...

Re: One solution to tailgating?

Some people are under a lot of pressure to get wherever they're going quickly. This might be pressure from an employer, from an external situation (late for something), showing off to a passenger, or it might be imagined pressure of other drivers' opinions (is that really imagined?). A lot of peopl...

Re: Recommend me a tent for a world tour

But with the Hubba Hubba, can't you pitch the fly only? Fast and Light I think they call it.

Re: Recommend me a tent for a world tour

I like the look of the hilleberg niak which is a 1-2 man tent. Though being a Hilleberg is eye wateringly expensive. So first month travelling staying in B and Bs and small hotels single occupancy at £35.00 per night (plus weak pound) = £1085.00. Second and third month as above. Cost of Hilleberg (...

Re: Recommend me a tent for a world tour

If your tour starts in the USA, could you arguably get a better tent cheaper there? doodah It's a thought. Do you know any chains of outdoor shops there? I'll most likely be starting from Washington dc. I will head towards Knoxville Tennessee as my sister will be moving there then either finish in ...

Re: Recommend me a tent for a world tour

I've been looking at videos on YouTube of various tents and the MSR Hubba Hubba is coming out on top so far. I love the design and ease of putting up. I've also come across the MSR Freelite, how does that compare?

Re: One solution to tailgating?

I don't get too close and I don't let people get too close to me. If they don't take the hint and they are dangerously close then I will pull over to let them past.

Re: One solution to tailgating?

When driving I used to leave plenty of room to the vehicle in front, 200 m maybe, on a winding road it often went out of sight. No need to close up, no need to overtake, usually trying to do so would be madness A passenger once asked me why I left such a big gap How might one explain? What do you d...

Re: Recommend me a tent for a world tour

There was an MSR Elixir 2 erected in my local cotswold and it was huge. Maybe too big for a solo trip. It made me wonder about ease of pitching such a big tent in tighter spots, wild camping etc. Maybe the one man would be more suitable. There's a lot I like about the design of the MSR tents. Free s...

Re: Recommend me a tent for a world tour

Most of the time I will be in warmer climes. The pamir although in summer might be cold at night because of the altitude. And the return through Europe will be in autumn.

Re: Recommend me a tent for a world tour

Tents are a compromise. If you want light then you might be compromising on durability and robustness to stand up to bad weather. ..... a bit like sleeping bags. People want just one bag that will keep them warm in all temperature ranges, from a light cover in warmer summer months down to -15C in a...
