Re: Bike Insurance

Yeah I imagine the bike insurance is too restrictive and costly. Haven’t fully looked into it, thought I’d ask here. Been looking at travel/health insurance as well and it seems reasonable for Europe. Not sure what people do outside of Europe as I imagine it gets a lot more complicated and costly th...

Bike Insurance

Hi guys Wondering if many people bother with bike insurance for long term touring for periods around 3-6 months and longer. On your normal insurance you can add in European travel etc but it's often limited to 60 day period. I'm inclined to not insure my bike as it's not really feasible when long te...

Re: Tarp and a Tent?

Mmm yeah I get what you mean with the additional weight. I think my angle of looking at it, however, is that on a long distance tour you may stop for a longer amount of time where having a tarp as an additional shelter/area to sit etc would be a nice advantage. The overall slowness of a long tour wo...

Re: Tarp and a Tent?

I'd still bring a tent, would also bring a tarp for reasons stated above. Just wondered if people do it.

Tarp and a Tent?

Hi guys Was wondering if anyone tours with both a tarp and a tent? I imagine it's for predominately long distance/term touring where weight and bulk may be less of an issue. Think a tarp could be useful to pitch during the day when resting or expanding your living area when stopped for a couple of d...

Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)

Hi all In regards to the thorn T bar, I assume the handlebar bag goes on to the t bar and the lights on the handlebars? My main gripe with that is having a messy 'cockpit' really, I think I'm going to go down the fork mounted light route. This initial thread was really sparked as a result of a lack ...

Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)

Ah I see, it's a dynamo set up though. Ideally I will have a front lamp there, battery driven rather than dynamo though. That's the issue.

Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)

Had a look at the busch and miller mount, that looks promising.

Those low rider bosses for the forks look interesting and a potential option, however, I use front panniers so this could potentially obscure the light? I assume both wouldn’t really work together?

Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll look into the above. Should have just got a dynamo in the first place. Ah yeah I’ve seen those cateye mounts, most of their front lights are plug in rechargeable rather than battery, except the one you mention however. Is that more of a be seen safety light rather th...

Front Lights (not on the handlebars)

Hi guys My touring set up uses a handlebar bag and as a result I'm not able to mount a front light on the handlebar. Been trying to find a solution for it and I've got a couple of ideas but would be interesting to hear other people ways of getting round this. I know carradice have the light bracket ...

Re: Rapha Archive Store - Shepton Mallet

Was wondering if anyone has been to this store yet? Interested to check it out and the prices do seem appealing (from first post) though would be great to hear more if other people have been there. Potentially after some bib shorts.

Fort William - Oban

Hi guys Was wondering what people's opinions are on cycling either the A82 to Oban from Fort William or crossing over to Camusnagaul and taking the A861 to Corran and then heading back on over? I've heard the A861 is a nicer road but would be interested to hear if anyone has experience of them. Albe...

Re: Hebrides tour

I'm planning a similar tour in June though slightly longer. Anyway, my knowledge on the area is pretty slim and people on here will be able to help a lot more, however, one thing I do know is cycling North - South is generally considered to have the winds (prevailing winds south - south west) contin...
