Re: Roads you would not ride on.

There is a dangerous dual carriageway from The Maypole to Becketts Farm around Wythall South of Birmingham. Okay in the light but in the dark oncoming cars keep their lights on full beam and there is no white line at the left hand side of the road so with the dazzling of the car lights you can't see where the edge of the road is. It is a death trap. I nearly got hit by following cars when staying clear of the left hand side of the road because I didn't want to crash. I gave up half way along it and had to scramble up the side of an overbridge to escape from it. :(

Re: Hampton Loade water treatment works bridge

There is supposed to be no pedestrian access but we have managed to climb over the fence and crossed the bridge in the past. We did not have our bikes with us though, which would be more difficult, It is a shame it's not open for public use as there is no ferry there now, so a long way to any alternative crossing.

Re: Name Change?

Well that's a shock - the CTC is no more, relegated just like that to history as it is re-branded as Cycling UK. Why not Easy Cycling UK, Touring Cycling UK or, I know, The Cyclist's Touring Club ? I can see the reasoning - it is to compete with those cheeky racers in the British Cycling Federation who tried to collar the market with their "British Cycling" re-brand in a pretty obvious attempt to nick our members and potential members who did not realise they were joining a racing club instead of the CTC.
It is really bad now in WH Smith trying to find a sensible magazine about cycle touring and leisure cycling - all the magazines on show are racing magazines spouting sportifs and gym routines instead of exploring the countryside. It occurred to me that rejoining the CTC recently at least enabled me to obtain a magazine about touring cycling and not racing.
A very sad day indeed.
The World has gone mad.

I was with you until you said the person needed to store the tandem - I already have two tandems in my bedroom so space is short !

Re: Moulton APB

Nope, my TSR brochure is one of those old fashioned printed paper ones !
However, if you try http://www.moultonbicycles.co.uk then you should be able to find the TSR9 specification.
Happy cycling but watch out for Moulton Wheel size pot holes !

You could try the cyclejumbles listed on www.campyoldy.com, although they're at least an hour's drive from Bristol :?

Re: Better for bikes? Norwich or Leicester?

I organised a student bike ride out to Six Hills Kart racing track once :D
Thought I had a tennis ball stuck to my back afterwards in bed - I'd bruised it on the back of the Kart seat
Glad to hear Spokes still exist. Such groups tend to be a mixture between a social rides group and a campaigning one - I'm in Pushbikes these days in Birmingham and it is almost split into two groups - the campaigners who seldom seem to go on the rides, and the riders who seldom seem to campaign... I'd like to claim I do both but guess I'm mainly in the second group

Ouch !
It is only clamped using one bolt - so I guess that will need to be tight !

Re: Better for bikes? Norwich or Leicester?

I never cycled down New Walk, as an experienced cyclist using London Road instead which was a lot faster, at least in the downhill direction !
I do remember hammering upon the roof of one car that cut me up when going up London Road once, to no avail.
My memories of New Walk mainly consist of going to my favourite Night Club there and then walking back home at dawn !
I have hardly ever been to Norwich and can't really remember what it's like (Unmemorable presumably ?) but asked which is most like Cambridge my money probably wouldn't be on Leicester !
If you want Cambridge how about York, Bristol or Oxford, or stay in Cambridge ? - Although having been offered a University course there myself recently at £10K per year fees which I was reluctantly forced to decline as unaffordable I can see why you may wish to leave !
