Re: End to End website

Fantastic, much appreciated Rob. Hoping to do our first LEJOG next spring, I had it all planned and booked for spring this year.

Re: End to End website

Looks a lot better, Rob. An "order by date" sort option would be useful for the journals.

Re: Scotrail introduce carriages with spaces for 20 bikes

Very good news but provision south of Inverness is dreadful, with the refurbished HSTs having an absurdly small cupboard which can cope with only one touring bike.

Re: Welsh pronunciation

The language is strictly phonetic so once you've learned the rules you can pronounce any word. I cycled to Hunstanton many years ago but only found out recently that it's pronounced Hunston, you don't get that sort of nonsense with Welsh.

Re: Virtual lejog.

This was our route. I'll devise a similar one after the virus has run its course but there'll be no need to call at Bradford on Avon since it was for a university reunion. We won't be staying on Colonsay since that was the only accommodation provider who refused to refund or amend our booking, despi...

Good luck but I'll be surprised if it's all clear by then, YHA have announced its hostels will close until the end of July.

Re: Does the Covid-19 virus outbreak make LeJoG too risky ?

Gwynedd and Anglesey councils have asked all accommodation providers to close. Unlikely to affect any but the strangest LEJOG route but I expect other local authorities will act similarly. I'm undecided whether to replan for September or wait until next year.

Re: Does the Covid-19 virus outbreak make LeJoG too risky ?

I was awash with jubilation when I succeeded in booking our bikes on trains to Penzance on 24th April, always the hardest and most stressful part of a cycling holiday. It was to last five weeks, encompassing tourist sights, visits to friends and a detour via Colonsay, Cape Wrath and Dunnet Head. All...

Re: Getting the bikes to Penzance

Yes, the most irritating aspect was the inability of GWR to interrogate their own system. It's the first time I've been unable to book bikes on the outward leg though we once had to travel to Scotland on separate trains as there were three of us. Coming back from Montrose last year we could only boo...

After several days, a not especially helpful or informative reple from GWR... I'm sorry that you experienced some confusion when trying to book a cycle on your trip between Newport South Wales and Penzance on 23 April. I've looked into this journey using multiple dates and times. I can see that the ...

Re: Getting the bikes to Penzance

AIUI, Cardiff to Penzance would usually involve a GWR local train to Bristol Temple Meads, usually an Express Sprinter. I don't know if booking a bike is possible on these trains (although seat reservations are available) and that might have given you the wrong message. There are also other types o...

Getting the bikes to Penzance

The obvious route from Bangor was via Newport which would have necessitated only one change and a reasonable start and finish time. The first leg would have been fine but the system was showing no bike spaces on the Cardiff to Penzance train. I checked this service on several other dates and also ot...

Scotrail refurbished HSTs

http://www.zen70752.zen.co.uk/alan/dyxum/scotrail_hst_bike_space.jpg On our recent long return trip from Bangor to Aberdeen I was surprised that the only train we couldn't book our three bikes on was from Montrose to Edinburgh. This was operated by an HST which have plenty of space for bikes in the...

Re: Flight bag for luggage

Great response, thanks for all the suggestions, I'll check out the holdall links. I'm happier with an enclosed bag than wrapping in a sheet, we spend long enough faffing about with the bikes so I like to make it as easy as possible to pack the luggage.

Flight bag for luggage

There are regular threads for bike bags but I've not seen any for bags to contain tent, panniers and their contents. We had lightweight bags by HiGear, bought from Go Outdoors but they started tearing after about six foreign holidays, they've been discontinued and I've found nothing equivalent. In d...
