Re: Now the Tories Should be worried...

What is your evidence that they're not registered to vote. 'None ' is what I'm thinking. The reality is that Labour has had a 4 point swing since Brands interview with Miliband on Sunday. Go figure...

Re: The United Kingdom now a pointless entity?

It's well known that the entire West coast of Scotland from Skye south has never been test drilled thoroughly in preference to the operational efficacy of Trident nuclear deterrent submarine traffic.

Small test drillings off the coast of Greenock in the Clyde estuary in 80'sv were quickly suppressed by the MOD. They revealed vast amounts of ready and easy to get at oil in shallow water.

The con, if you like, is in conservative policies. Scotland will easy pay its way in international terms on its own.. What resources does the rUK have?

Re: The United Kingdom now a pointless entity?

I blame Greggs Steak Bakes! They are incendiary food products.

You can show all the oil production graphs you want, the reality is Scotland still has a tremendous resource still in the ground and an estimated 150-200% more oil to be exploited.

If this were not the case, the rUK would have cut the apron strings decades ago.

If you were citing the original WHO paper rather than a hack precis of it in the Guardian I would take your point seriously.

As it is it's just frivolous to discuss anything, given the reference document you cite.

I'm not really interested in frivolous, unreferenced 'opinion'. Which serves no one, least wise advancing the topic.

Re: The United Kingdom now a pointless entity?

Scotland is clearly a different political and social animal to the rest if the UK. I've lived in three out of the four countries in the united kingdom, and I must say I've never experienced a more friendly and humane culture and society than I have north of the border. I can see why they absolutely want to break away, and why the oil dependant South is so desperate to cling onto it. If that that was not the case then we wouldn't see the hyperbolae of the NO campaign so ferocious and determined in its toothy attack.

Democracy and liberty will out though. I'm convinced of that. After this campaign...

Please keep on topic. Referring to previous threads from the past advances this argument no further.

That's how forums are supposed to work. I'm not reiterating previous arguments for your benefit.

I really don't think any of your points are worthy of addressing. You're simply trying to rehash a previous topic. Which is poor form . If you had read the entire WHO report you'd see that they are also critical of the inefficacy of BMI. If you can't advance the argument why bother contributing at all?

Stay on topic!!

Personally I think it way past time the state DID intervene in personal choices. Smoking in public ect, it's not exactly unprecedented action. If we really want a free health service at the point of need, then it's high time we started participating in our own health management. The NHS is not a free for all, fix all personal abuses service. What about personal responsibility!!?

Re: WHO report: 74% of men & 64% women in UK overweight by

There are several 'Healthy Living' cycling and walking schemes in my area. Unfortunately they are piecemeal and usually poorly funded, attracting less than a dozen or so participants. It is heartening however to see many of my ex patients joining schemes like these. Clearly a lot more money has to be pumped into preventing illness in the first place, a mass participation scheme would be advantageous, with perhaps the carrot and stick of free clothing or equipment provided (helmets, locks ect)
I'd personally like to see it incentivised by an NI contributions reduction for those participating in such initiatives.

Socialists want the state to do more and private enterprise to do less. Perhaps it would be a good idea to let Scotland do an experiment where it temporarily becomes totally independent raising and spending its own taxes as its voters decide in all but name. If after 5 years the Scots decide to go for full independence they can then vote for it. After that its no going back. No point in including a distinct country like Scotland in an unwilling Union.

I think that's pretty much going to be the scenario whether Westminster likes it or not. If Labour are reduced to 3-5 seats in Scotland, then the SNP have a mandate to ask for just about any devolved advantages as they desire. In a democracy, with such a mandate they cant be denied.

I forsee a 'Home Rule' situation after the election in return for support of Labour. This will last only as long as the people of Scotland want it after which another referendum is inevitable. Most political commentators agree that should there be a second referendum in say 3-5 years time, the result will be conclusive .

Keith. I don't think any of your points are worthy of a response. Please stay on topic with the OP. That is after all the way forums work.
You're not advancing the subject one bit.

There may still be a fraction of the population who have personal pride and responsibility and will take the necessary action to remain fit and healthy despite external influences. So the fraction of people getting to overweight status may have a sharp cut-off point in exactly the same way that there isnt one at BMI=25.

I have absolutely no idea what you just said!!! :D
