Re: Change from 2 x 10 to 1 x 11

You need an 11 speed hub. Freehub width is wider on 11 vs. 10. That is going to be an expensive switchover.

Re: Kool Stop Break Pads

I'm liking Disco brake pads. Seem better than Koolstops on V-brakes. No squeal. Just as much power as far as I can tell. Cheap. Good reviews.

I've got black Koolstops on the front and Salmon on the rear of my road bike. Salmons are wearing faster. Normally I wear front and rear about the same. I like black better. I've had the Salmons squeal on another bike whereas the black didn't. I don't ride in the rain.

Re: Tips on making a second wheelset easily interchangeable with first

Use the same hubs. That way, the rotor will be in the proper position and not require realignment of the caliper.

I’ve changed the contrast so you can just about make out at the top of the split that the strip under discussion extended across the tear in the tyre underneath it and wasn’t structurally part of the pocket that contains the bead.

That could be tire lever damage. If you pull a tire lever along the bead to strip off the tire, you could tear up the bead. Continental tires (at least some models of them) seem to be sensitive to that type of damage. Use the tire lever to pry off the bead.

Another tubeless struggle - advice welcome

You have to distribute the sealant all over the sidewalls to get them to seal. Turn the wheel in all sorts of orientations and shake to get the sealant all over the inside.

What are "gear pitches"? Do Shimano definitely mean cable pull?
PT1029 wrote: 30 Apr 2021, 8:35pm The shimano link says the Linkglide 10/11s groupsets are not compatable with existing 10/11s groupsets.
I wonder how many variants of Shimano indexing/cable pull are now available....?!
Chris
Shimano didn't write that. I think whomever wrote that article meant the cog spacing is different.

Re: Squeaky Brakes (extremely)

If you can't solve the problem with toe in and cleaning, change the brand of pad. Koolstops are good but do have a tendency to squeal. Disco brake pads are good, but don't know if they make a pad with unthreaded studs.

Re: The Mysteries of Tube Replacement

A friend of mine mounts a tire by inflating the tube just enough to give it a donut shape and placing it in the tire, then mounts the tire to the rim. Seems to work for him and looks like you would be less likely to pinch the tube that way. I'm gonna try it next time I change tires. When I'm dealing with a flat though, I'll stick with the tried and true method; i.e. removing the whole tire rather than one bead seems like extra work to me.

Punctures. How to mark the hole?

How about sticking a toothpick in the hole? I'd still mark the hole with a circle and a big X.

Re: Tubeless tyres..spare inner tubes are not enough!

There is no need to tighten the valve more than finger tight. Most quality valves have a large nut that provides more than enough leverage to be removed with the fingers. Do not tighten a valve nut with pliers. If you do you'd better carry one. I wouldn't use a valve with a dinky nut like the one that comes with a tube.

Re: Shimano LO2A

I talked to someone that has had a new Trek bike on order for many months. What was supposed to be an April deliver date is now July and the bike shop said it was delayed again because of a shortage of Shimano parts.

He should, or at least have an archive of relevant postings or a FAQ.

I suspect he has posted everything on these fora, we just need to read and understand it

I was thinking of something concisely organized and indexed like yarchive.net or sheldonbrown.com.
