Ordered some (really nice) cycling trousers a couple of weeks ago - arrived within three days.
No problems.

Re: Why not have dual front discs?
As a lifelong motorcyclist I have often wondered the same thing?
The necessity, braking forces, distribution of heat etc will be a complete irrelevance, one manufacturer will do it and the rest will drop like flies - Fashion.
I reckon it will come, only a matter of time.

Re: Stanforth Skylander Rohloff
Me too.
I previously used my Rohloff hub in a frame with horizontal dropouts. It worked fine but wheel removal/refitting was fiddly. I much prefer using it in solid dropouts with the chain tensioner. I thought that lining up the OEM2 plate, Monkey bone, disc rotor might be a faff, but it's now a doddle. I guess that all the chain tensioning methods have pros and cons - it all comes down to personal preference.
I really do want to try belt drive before I 'croak'.

Re: Inline dynamo connectors
I did nothing special other than putting tight heat shrink over the wires right up to where they disappear into the plastic connectors (both sides) Then just zip tied to the fork. I would take a pic' but I'm away on Grandson sitting duties at the moment.Brucey wrote: ↑1 Jan 2024, 12:17pmwe are a bit worried about vibration causing possible fatigue failures in the wire. Do you think you have gone far enough that you would have seen that? Did you take any special precautions to stop the connectors from flapping about? How are they secured?Tiberius wrote: .........FYI - I have been using those, on two bikes, for approximately six years and they have been faultless.......
TBH this was never intended as a permanent solution, the connectors are a bit big and 'numb' looking. However, their size makes them a doddle to disconnect/reconnect, they are not fiddly at all which is a God send when removing the front wheel, cold/wet/road side and a world away from those rotten little spade connectors.
6 years (over 20,000 hard miles) - 100% reliable.

Re: Inline dynamo connectors
FYI - I have been using those, on two bikes, for approximately six years and they have been faultless. My bikes are used all year round and I live at the coast, they are regularly doused in a mixture of sand and sea water. They still disconnect/reconnect perfectly and are completely watertight in real world cycling use.Mick F wrote: ↑16 Dec 2023, 10:35am
Bought one of these.

Just had the bike on the rack in the workshop, and fitted it. Not the prettiest thing in the world, but it's waterproof and reliable ......... or at least more reliable than Phono.

They also came from ebay but I can't be sure if they came from the same supplier.

Re: Cable operated disc brakes
Completely agree with all of that - Great brakes.gxaustin wrote: ↑31 Aug 2023, 9:07pm I used TRP cable hydraulic brakes. They were not quite as good as full hydraulic, mainly in terms of modulation. A good upgrade was the fitting of compressionless brake cable outers which made the brake lever much firmer.
It means that you can use a cable groupset on a disc bike too.

Re: Would you still buy a bike with rim brakes?
This is intended as a direct reply to the original poster - TBaySimon.
Simon. I have three bikes - one has cable rim brakes, one has cable disc/hybrid hydraulic brakes (TRP HyRd) and one has hydraulic discs. ALL the brakes are really good, working perfectly in all conditions.
Now then, which do I actually prefer? The hydraulic discs every time. It's that indefinable 'feel' croping up again. Yes, they are more complicated than rim brakes, but it's all relative, some people struggle to set up rim brakes PROPERLY. I've found hydraulic disc brakes fairly straight forward to maintain.
Two of my three bikes are titanium and something drastic would have to happen to them to put me off buying another. They just ooze 'special' and are are lovely and comfortable to ride.
From personal experience, I wouldn't buy another rim braked bike and I would definitely go titanium again. This is nothing to do with re-sale value, I have no intention of selling my titanium disc braked bikes. Things have simply moved on a bit and IN MY OPINION things have generally moved on for the better.
I have no regrets in going with titanium and discs.

Re: Collecting prescriptions
True story
I managed to get someone else's medication, dispensed to me by my REGULAR chemist.
Ordered via the NHS app. Got txt 'Med's ready to pick up' Went to the chemist, gave my name and address and was given a bag of God knows what. Both myself and the intended recipient had identical surnames but I'm an Ian and he was an Iain. I can confirm that Iain did not live at my address.
On returning the med's the chemist was horrified and apologised profusely. Human error. Avoid humans...
I will spare you the details of how I know this but, three months later Iain administered my covid booster jab.

Re: Anyone Else 'Lost' Their Rail Pass on Railcard App?
Interesting.
What happens if you get someone to take a REALLY carefully framed photo' of your pass on their phone, so it looks as good as a screen shot?
Can you take the picture or does their phone stop you saving it?
