Re: Visiting Mont St Michel…?

I‘ll be sure to remind my 9 year old boy of that, he’ll be thrilled ;)

Re: Visiting Mont St Michel…?

Circumstances dictate we’ll be there midday in the school holidays, I’m expecting a degree of misery ;)

Visiting Mont St Michel…?

Planning on taking my 9yo son on a mini tour next month. We'll be going past Mont St Michel on our first day so we might as well have a mooch round it. I've been past it a few times in recent years but haven't been on the Mont itself since 2005, since when things have changed quite a bit. I'm aware ...

2.4W dynamo hubs

I realise that on the face of it this question has an obvious answer (which probably already appears on the forum, but the search function is no help here), but… Will a 2.4W hub adequately power both front and rear LED lights? I ask because these hubs (eg the 2N35) seem to be available at much lower...

Re: Simple Question: Is anyone else fed up with having to be PC ?

On Health and Safety, since the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974... Playing devil's advocate, that graph doesn't actually tell you much without seeing the previous years. Take road casualty data as an analogy: if you showed the casualty rate starting with the point when seatbelts became a legal r...

Re: Simple Question: Is anyone else fed up with having to be PC ?

One must say Chalk Board no matter what. One is now also obliged to have children sing "Baa Baa Wooly Sheep" or you are for the high jump. With a wife who taught for 42 years and a daughter who has done the same job for 17 years we speak as it is. My wife teaches and I'm pretty sure she's...

Re: Simple Question: Is anyone else fed up with having to be PC ?

I remember seeing a Louix Theroux TV program which featured people with the most outrageous anti gay signs and chants in the street in the US. Its allowed. But just like Alf Garnet it showed them up just as Trump has revealed to everyone what a bigot he actually is. Mm. And there's the rub: to supp...

Re: Simple Question: Is anyone else fed up with having to be PC ?

Twisting peoples words to suit your own predjudices is insulting. I never said I identified with Trump, I just had him in mind. He is just a very obvious example of how folk in the US can say anything they want to Fair enough. I thought replying “yes”to the suggestion that you “identify him if you ...

Re: Simple Question: Is anyone else fed up with having to be PC ?

A man who … likes to belittle black people, disabled people, gay people, women, educated people, journalists, Muslims, poor people, ill people, Mexicans. Identify with such if you wish. Yes Saying you don't like political correctness because you wish to identify with someone who belittles others by...

Re: Simple Question: Is anyone else fed up with having to be PC ?

On an arguably different subject, the expression "ethnic minority" has been used to move away from theories based on "race." The word "ethnic" is now bandied about as a noun, imbued with as much racism as the words it has replaced. The use of adjectives as a noun to de...

Re: Simple Question: Is anyone else fed up with having to be PC ?

The perennial problem with these discussions is that some people equate "PC gone mad" with "being roundly criticised for blacking up". Back in the early 80s in the playground there was a synonym for the verb "to steal" which was literally nothing more than a verbified n...

Re: Radial Front Wheel build - spokes inside or outside the hub?

I've always built them with the spokes on the inside. One of the main appeals of radial spoking is the aesthetics, and heads-out looks a million percent better than elbows-out. The structural difference is of no matter in this context IMO (unless you've made a bunch of very silly decisions that make...

Re: Simple Question: Is anyone else fed up with having to be PC ?

They hijack our language, so I can no longer think of having a "Gay Box" to put on the wall! Says who? I'm not sure what a "gay box" is, but I'm pretty sure that if you watch The Flintstones you can still have a gay old time, and if you listen to even recent recordings of Have Y...
