Re: Kim Jong Un on horseback...

That's a hefty horse. Verging on a heavy perhaps? Obviously chosen to make the l'il dictator look smaller on the photographs perhaps? Very Putinesque! Next he'll be bear wrestling and fishing bare chested catching a new world record sized fish with just his hands while looking ripped! Dictators play...

Re: The right way to handle the Scotish Independance?

So nothing to do with the creation of Scottish border where it is then.

Re: Diplomatic Immunity?

I had a Jewish mate at university, not that you'd know it. He'd be packed off to university with a hamper if homemade kosher food. Once at university he'd be eating bacon bottles and his favourite pizza Hawaiian with the ham on it. But come time to go home he got picked up by parents and became kosh...

Re: The right way to handle the Scotish Independance?

So part way into what became modern Scotland. Hardly making for modern Scotland. Surely you'd have the current Scottish border on hadrian's wall or the antonine wall? Out if curiosity anyone know why the border is where it is? Afterall you've got a big difference between southern Scotland and the hi...

Re: The right way to handle the Scotish Independance?

The wall was south of the Scottish border I thought. Although I think I read once that there was another wall north of hadrian's wall.

Re: The right way to handle the Scotish Independance?

Devolution isn't the same as independence. It's more about political power, about where your main or closest representatives are based. There's forms if devolution from assemblies, Scottish parliament, county councils right through to parish councils. None of them are independent states. The other p...

Re: The right way to handle the Scotish Independance?

I think it's possibly because SNP are more into EU style consensus politics.

Does sound a little like a rejection of the union rather than a true desire for independence. Out of one union and into a bigger one asap. Still none of my business.

Re: The right way to handle the Scotish Independance?

Ale was historically a drink consumed by all when water was unsafe. Imagine duty on water? Whiskey isn't a drink in that sense. So whilst the real reason was numerical there's a very good reason not to have high duty on sales. This drinking of ale instead of unsafe water has very strong roots in Bel...

Re: The right way to handle the Scotish Independance?

Anyone know the history of the union? In my ignorance I was taught about a new world investment bubble the Scots got themselves into causing a big debt. Resistance to joining in a union with England and Wales (and Ireland? ) was overcome hence the union. Technically a union if equals hence the diffe...

Re: The right way to handle the Scotish Independance?

Cornish language? That was a good save I believe, wasn't it down to the last native speaker at one point before the boffins went in to save it? Culture of the Cornish is and always was strong even if the language weakened. Strange place, strange people at times. Very much like the Welsh speaking par...

Re: The right way to handle the Scotish Independance?

Isn't nationally based on place of birth and nationality of your parents? If you're born and bred Scottish but living outside Scotland, say in England, what nationality would you suggest post independence for Scotland? My grandfather was American his whole life despite living in liverpool for most o...

Re: What Would You Do With £170M

Family lived in OK and my rides used to start with a ride down one of the hills to the crossroads. Usually down to Arnside and Silverdale on a self created time trial route I liked. Overall time improvements and beating my 58mph record were the two obsessions over that route. :D I nearly bought a 20...

Re: Diplomatic Immunity?

Bear in mind all the big supermarket chains actually only supply Halal. Sorry, but that's nonsense ( how would you define Halal pork? ). Where did you pick up this canard from, could it have been an Islamophobic website? It is true that all New Zealand lamb supplied to the UK is Halal, beca...

Re: The right way to handle the Scotish Independance?

Personally I'm a unionist in sentiment and always felt the stage when devolution was being discussed was when matters if the union should have been discussed across the union. What form should the union take? Should it even exist? My issue is that all rubber arguments for devolution applied equally ...
