There used to be an unusual bus lane in Glasgow. It was clearly marked “Buses only”. It was only about 25 metres long and I used to use it on my way home from a late shift as at 2 or 3 in the morning there were no buses.
I never had any problems and a few years ago it was changed to the more usual “buses, taxis and cycles”.

I am on a few different forums on this internet. This is the only one where it seems safe to ask a stupid question and not be attacked.
Are we cyclists a better breed that most?
I really appreciate all the helpful advice I've been given. I was sure the left pedal was left hand thread and that is what I was trying at the good quality allen key ripped through the metal.

The advice on here is so good.

I wish it had spanner flats, so much easier.
It is a pedalite. I liked them as a lot of my commuting was in the dark on busy roads. I will probably take a still saw to it so I can get a grip with a wrench.

It is a while since I changed a pedal, ten years at a guess as I was still commuting to work on my bike at that time and I retired nearly 8 years ago

I think being confined to home has made my mind stop working.
My left pedal needs to be replaced. It is solid into the crank. The Allen key way is wrecked as the correct size key simply tears the soft metal of the rubbish old pedal.
I plan to use brute force in the form of a large set of stilsons but is the left pedal left hand thread? I think it is, I know one of them is but which one? I know I'm being stupid but????
I will replace both pedals but which way do I turn them?

My commute was about 35 minutes ans included a few steep hills and lots of traffic lights.
I like toe clips, it seemed to make it easier and I had no problem getting my toes into them.

I am one of the "who cares what it looks like" cyclists. I cable tied a short length of plastic waste pipe across my rear carrier. I did drill holes in the pipe for the cable ties. I lock my Ulock through this pipe.

I started this thread back in December and got the answer to use GNR. I've used it three times since then with no problem booking my bike on a few different trains with some parts of the journey not doing seat reservation or bike reservation but I've been able to stand with my bike for those 10 minute sections.
I mainly start with a Virgin train on the West Coast main line then use any company that goes where I want to go.

Most of my journeys with my bike are Virgin West Coast and the train crew usually tell me to lock my bike to the train. They seem helpful and want me to keep my bike secure. (I do hate the spaces where the bike hangs by one wheel.)

I will not consider the tag along idea as it seems to be a bad idea.
I have been surprised at the price of some of the tandems, far less than I thought I'd need to pay.
Now for a discussion with my wife

That isn't correct, some of the Scotrail routes require booking, for example all trains to Oban, Mallaig and Wick/Thurso which are probably the three most popular cycle tourist trains.

You are right, I was just thinking of local trains in Strathclyde where I simply stand with my bike for the journey.

Thank you A problem with a tandem is carrying it. We have a caravan and love to get away, a bike would fit on a rack, a tandem would be a bit too big.
