Re: Pictures of your bike(s)

I've recently built up a Light Blue Darwin as an all round tourer/gravel bike. I've posted detailed information plus an image at my blogsite( it's easier than trying to post images here ). The detail of the blog post may be of use for anyone currently deciding on a frame-set or fully built bike in t...

Re: Do we really want an Emotional, Gay, Muslim Armed Forces ?

I would rather we had an Army and Armed Forces that was intelligent, sensible and overwhelmingly violent when required I'd not expect anyone of the large well known faiths to join the armed forces, if true to their faith, in whatever capacity helping the fight. I'd expect those who rationalise kill...

Re: BBC Pay - more than the PM!

My opinion is pretty much the opposite and I'd never accept such a contract or simply refuse to abide by it. I think companies work far better if there's a general openness in such matters, these things rarely stay entirely secret anyway and blurring it up simply results in suspicion and discontent...

Re: BBC Pay - more than the PM!

I think it's very industry dependent. Certainly in my industry (software engineering) some folk are simply worth the money. There are people I've worked with in the past that I'd be happy to pay more than myself - and I'm obviously not alone since they're generally well rewarded. I think from my pe...

Re: BBC Pay - more than the PM!

but on occasion I've discovered others that are paid a lot more. Negotiating skills it seems are everything... Well I for one am dead against this practice, I did see it where I worked as the company evolved and incomers( who had previously worked together.... think jobs for the boys ) made salary ...

Re: BBC Pay - more than the PM!

One thing about the people who we elect to run our country - whoever they may be ... How many people onn here would be able to put up with people telling you you don't know your job, and publicly criticising and rubbishing everything you do, day in, day out, every single day, without collapsing und...

Re: BBC Pay - more than the PM!

or me the output and corporate issues become closely related when considering where I spend my money e.g. I wont even consider subscribing to Sky because I can't tolerate the Murdochs (though it seems unclear if Murdochs will continue having involvement), similarly I wont even consider amazon Prime...

Re: BBC Pay - more than the PM!

I think its important to separate the bbc and its output from its pay structure. Be critical of the latter, which reflects uk companies in general, as all the salaries, pensions etc are unjustified. But if they aren't parasiting in the beeb, ahem offering the public value, they would be parasiting e...

Re: Dynamo system choices

I still carry a back up light just in case but i donvt have it mounted and lit. So it remains charged. As with so much in cycling we carry extra weight just in case. I now have a headtorch that i acquired for loft work. But i chose its modes to give good light output for a few hours for cycling, aga...

Re: Noise Limiting Ear Plugs

The best ones are those that come with certification from National Husband Authority. They are designed to protect the wearer from the audible and mental damage of a nagging wife. They are of a higher rating than industrial products  . On a serious note I use good old peltor ones like these ht...

Re: Dynamo system choices

Well, just fitted everything and I've never seen so much flickering from a light! At 10mph, riding around the street, a really unpleasant high speed ficker. My setup is the shimano dh3n80 with cyo premium( and b+m bar mount ). My light will flicker up to around 5mph max then all's well in the world...

Re: BBC Pay - more than the PM!

All this mining history made me wonder what ever happened to Roy Lynk. He was the chap who headed up the UDM breakaway union during the strike. It appears he's still alive and around 85yrs old, crikey time flies. The chap who followed on from him was done for mis-appropriating funds to update his ho...

Re: BBC Pay - more than the PM!

The commercial offshoot of the BBC is co owner of UKTV which has channels such as yesterday, dave, drama etc so thats why they have a lot of old beeb series on. I think the bbc programmes such as those on bbc4 and bbc2 are pretty good, the other bbc1 is pitched more at joe public and dancing shows a...

Re: BBC Pay - more than the PM!

George Entwistle, Director General for 54 days after which he quit and got a £450k pay-off (most people resigning their job just leave without any "pay-off"). This practice common across the board for "senior manager/directors" should be made illegal. Your common or garden worke...
