Ringing the New Year in with a Crash

So at 0500 this morning I set off for work, full of the joy of little sleep due to the current trend of setting off fireworks. Within moments I managed to find some black ice and deck my Challenge Furai with such force as to snap the tiller clean in half. I am hoping I set the record for the first f...

Schlitter Encore is it the next best new thing on the block

So the time has come to start saving for next year's bike. (Here is hoping that Kevin from DTeK is monitoring the CTC forums) . Of late I have noticed that there may be a contender for sexiest recumbent on the planet, that I currently believed was a Cruzbike Silvio and that being the Schlitter Encor...

Re: winter on a bent

Thanks for all the replies, I certainly won't be going for a trike as they leave me totally cold but perhaps lower tyre pressure and spare undies will see me through. I think I will build up a mountain bike frame with a pair of dirty sanchez style handlebars for the brief forays to work and save the...

Re: How To Calm Down a Ranting Driver?

Check for any running camcorders, any one filming with a phone. If absent, take a pull on your cheroot, pull your hat down a little and say " Make my day" before pulling out your tazer. Tazer's are quite light and tuck quite easily into the back pocket of a cycling shirt.

winter on a bent

I am now approaching 500 miles on my trusty Challenge Furai 24. It has been an interesting but mostly enjoyable time. Most of the drive train has now been replaced but it still gives the occasional annoying issues. I have come to accept the challenges of getting a recumbent through tight spaces that...

Re: My New (to me ) Recumbent

Not been on here for ages, so apologies for not posting up. I have settled in nicely with the Furai. I have been braving the Brum traffic for a fair while now, although I have now moved office and only have to brave a bit of it before turning off and then braving the gang warfare on route to Duddest...

Re: New 'bent

You've beaten me to the commute. Not sure if I am ready to battle the rush hour in Birmingham. I may ride in as I go before the traffic starts and catch the train out of the city centre. I wonder what it is like using a bent on a train

Re: New 'bent

Excellent progress there Bob and pleasing to see someone else out there learning the craft. I have managed about 35 miles on mine and only the slow speed stuff is catching me out. Currently off the road at the moment awaiting tyres that don't puncture running over tissue paper. 5 flats and a torn ca...

Re: My New (to me ) Recumbent

I got out on in the brilliant bank holiday sunshine this afternoon after work for another attempt at my local circuit. Everything with the exception of the shifting was much better. I spent far too long trying to get the gear I wanted, there were ghost shifts galore. I am getting to grips with the l...

My New (to me ) Recumbent

A slightly late report but I have been on holiday. I only went and bought a recumbent. Thanks to Kevin at Dtek I am the proud owner of a Challenge Furai 24. Finished in sexy matt black and adorned with additional ubercool. I spent a while riding around the campsite before venturing out for a quick 5...

I spoke with Kevin at Dtek again today and sorted out the next visit to Ely. It will coincide with a family holiday in Norfolk at Easter and I am not sure which I am looking forward tot he most. (This information stays on the forum) In the meantime I have ordered a stem extender for my Genesis so th...

Re: choices choices ( if you are bored this may be a good re

Far from falling in love with DF again, I managed a whole 10 miles on Saturday for my first time out since my back went. I used a Hybrid I have spare thinking it would help woth my back. How wrong was I? An unpleasant experience with the added difficiency of having flat bars. It was nice to be out i...
