I bought one a few months ago after my Topeak mini started leaking air from the tyres faster than it went in.
At the time it was £23 ish I think and so far I'm very impressed. Got my girlfriends 26x1.75 tyres up to 50psi easily and a club members 700x23 up to 110psi with a smidgen of effort after his mini morph fell to bits, literally. My favorite bit of this pump is the copied from Topeak but superior foot stand. Bontragers effort is an alloy box section which with the steel pin hinging it, slides back into the pumps end for extra reinforcement. I've not got the pump to hand to show this right now, but is a great deal stronger than I experienced with the mini morph.
The hose is nice and long too and the valve thumb lock easy to use.
Utter utter brilliant pump :)

Yep, that's the one - I haven't needed to use it yet but impressed with the design and feel of it, it's good to gear you've found it works well.

Re: Pumping up 29er 2.4inch tyres

I have a little Bontrager mini track pump which is around the same size and weight as the hand pump I had but vastly better for pumping up tyres, I came across it oddly enough when a friend on a Genesis Longitude punctured a wheel a ride and one of others in the group had this little track pump.

Re: Burly blokes on the pavement - why?

I've never seen any MTB groups that ride on the pavement up here, certainly none of the groups I've been out with do that and can't see why they would.

Re: Should I just stick with 26" wheels?

I don't understand why people get so up in arms about wheel sizes, there are advantages and disadvantages to the various sizes so it's case of choosing whatever suits your needs which is pretty much the same with the rest of a mountain bike - there's no one setup that can do it all perfectly so there's always choices for frame material, gear systems, suspension, suspension travel etc.

27.5+ certainly looks very interesting, 3in wide and similar diameter to a 29er that should fit in some existing 29er frames as well as more of the fat bikes. There is an existing 29+ standard but due to the larger diameter it tends to only fit in specific frames for it leaving it too big for 29er frames and a lot of the fat bike frames. It should be a good all round tyre for off road with a bit more traction than standard tyres but not quite the heft of the fat bike tyres.
