Re: Snow watch

I walked the 3 miles to work (Edinburgh) this morning in snow that varied between 2-10 inches deep.

If he was in black and grey kit, it might have been a yacf jersey. So you might want to try posting on yacf.co.uk

Believe me, as an occupational therapist who used to work in orthopaedics, if they felt it was unnecessary for you to be there, they would have discharged you. The fact you had to self-discharge is an indication you still needed to be there. But there's no point arguing about that now, what's done is done and you're home.

First thing you should be doing is requesting an urgent referral to physiotherapy.

Re: Winter Commuting Poll

The year before last, my neighbour came off his bike on ice, broke a couple of bones in his foot, then developed a DVT and nearly died.

Last year I came off on black ice, landed hard on my coccyx and couldn't sit down comfortably for a couple of months.

I am being very wary this year and once we get to proper ice rather than just thick frost and icy puddles, I will be resting my bike for the winter and renewing my bus pass.

But you can't make eye contact with someone who is looking up the road to see if a car is coming...

Re: . . . why we lean?

You have to keep your centre of gravity within your base of support. As the bike turns, the centre of gravity moves and the base of support changes. So you lean to realign the centre of gravity.

Colin63 wrote:Recently I went out with a group to celebrate an old friend's 47th birthday. For some reason or other he chose to go to a new bar which was very trendy and specialised in expensive cocktails. I was remarkably restrained and just had a couple of glasses of wine and my friend seemed to be pacing himself nicely. After a few hours we both went outside for a smoke and as we stepped into the fresh air he had a dizzy attack and stumbled (obviously hadn't paced himself as much as I thought). He tried to correct his fall which would have seen him stagger into the road and in doing so fell into a group of people. It was quite funny as I haven't seen him do something like that for well over twenty years, but obviously needed a bit of intervention to extricate him from the group of people, make apologies and make sure that we replaced any spilled drinks. I grabbed him and steadied him and apologised for the incident but what happened next really shocked me. The women in the group rounded on him and started kicking and punching him. Now this is a small balding middle aged man, and while the accident had no redeeming aspects to it (apart from my amusement) to see such a response of violence was just gob smacking. It just took a few seconds for their male friends to pull them back and calm them down (at least to the point where all they were doing was swearing at my mate). Luckily I was sober and the bouncers, yes it was one of those places, were quick to accurately assess what had happened and deal with me which diffused the situation, but blimey! Perhaps not grumpy old women but a case of the cold hostility which seems to be bubbling under the surface of this society these days.

Or perhaps women who have experienced decades of verbal abuse and unwanted groping from men who are complete strangers, and therefore perceived it as an attack from a drunk.

That was replaced with a B&W Ixon IQ and not surprisingly it blows the other two out of the water. It's very bright and the rechargeable batteries last for ages even on full power. Even better is the beam pattern, which has a nice cut-off to prevent dazzling other people and focuses the light where you need it: down and to the sides.

I have an Ixon IQ. I loved the light, but the brackets are like cheese. They just don't cope with Edinburgh cobbles, and the light worked loose, fell off and split apart. I sent it back to Ixon and they repaired it free, but the same thing happened again. I can't use a light I don't trust. So I got a Fenix L2D. The light isn't quite as good, but the bracket is better, and the casing is sturdier so it copes with being dropped. I'm thinking I might sell the IQ.

Good luck.

This is really important. If you don't do the exercises, you'll never get full flexion back.

Also, however pervasive it appears, there are a good number of people who do not use FB.

Any better ideas than helmetsense... One advantage - It's available ;)

No you weren't. Defending her would have been pushing him away. He assaulted her, you assaulted him.

No uninvited touching is acceptable.
