Re: Cycle Show 2024 Cancelled. Alternatives
The current exhibitors list doesn't inspire me to go.TrevA wrote: ↑4 Mar 2024, 10:15am I think the NEC one is still on.

Though the last time I went, it was mostly obscure Chinese e-bikes, not much to interest the road and touring market.

Re: Routes Bilbao to St Malo
I would agree especially through Aquitaine. During the summer months this section gets very busy with many leisure cycling families, making progress very slow.mxg01 wrote: ↑18 Jan 2024, 9:57am Don't slavishly follow EV1 along the west coast of France. It goes to extraordinary lengths to avoid even very quiet roads. Those extraordinary lengths involve miles of detour when a few kms on a quiet D road is all you are missing.
Use cycle.travel and drag the route to towns of interest.

Re: arthritis and handlebars
For the last 7 years I have been plagued with arthritis in my left hand coupled with what the doctor describes as “fair wear and tear”.
Having tried different combinations of handlebars and brake levers, none matched my preferred drop-bars and bar-end shifters My solution has been to fit ‘Grab-On’ foam bar covers which absorb a lot of the road vibration, with in-line cyclo-cross levers as using the drop rear brake is painful.
While not totally curing the problem it does allow me to keep riding with some degree of comfort.
BTW. Wiggle have the Tektro in-line levers in their clearance sale as of today.

+1cycleruk wrote: ↑5 Nov 2023, 8:07pm Mallorca for me any day. Very cyclist orientated. Generally good road surfaces and considerate traffic.
Some hotels are very cyclist friendly and have bike facilities included. (bike hire & garages).
Loads of flat routes but climbs if wanted. Numerous quiet traffic free "cami's" (country lanes).
As mentioned above the mountain area is all on one side of the Island but there are some worthwhile climbs up to various monasteries inland. (Randa, San Salvador.)
Most villages have a cafe and there are some must be visited such as Petra, Sineu, etc.
Would help very much if you could go with someone who had an experience of the island.
The only time I wouldn't go is midsummer as it can be very hot.
Hopefully see you there.

I tried to get on yesterday and couldn't. I've just checked and it is still down.

You've lost me when you mention Kamoot and Garmiin. Only ever use nice simple maps and occasional compass.

Re: Santander -Salamanca etc.
Didn't do Zamora. We went direct from Tora to Salamanca along a very quiet road, through the small town of La Boveda.

Re: Using Riv-nuts
I used Riv-nuts to fit an extra bottle cage on a Mercian frame. I borrowed the riveter tool from a car mechanic who gave me a quick lesson in how to use it. Everything went okay and the never had a problem.
