Re: Winter brake pad recommendations

Guessing it's the muck on wet rims that's causing the rapid wear, which would be eliminated almost completely with discs. Is that an option? Even if more costly initially, likely to save money over the longer term.

Unfortunately discs would mean a new bike (or that could be fortunately...)

Re: Winter brake pad recommendations

Those swissstop pads aren't cheap! Nearly £5 a pad.

I'll give the Clarkes a try. Thanks for the responses so far :)

Winter brake pad recommendations

With the weather getting wetter I’m looking for some better and longer lasting brake pads (if both are possible?)

I currently use shimano R55C3 pads in shimano br-r650 calipers and aluminium rims, ryde chrina on the front and andra on the back.

When it’s wet a lot I seem to go through front pads in about 3 weeks of commuting 15 miles a day, rears last a similar amount of time though I use the back brake less.

Has anyone got any recommendations of brands and models to try? It’s fairly hilly around here (Cornwall) so after something which stops well in the wet and lasts a bit longer than the shimanos.

Thanks

Loose fitting tyre recommendation?

Hello,
I’ve just finished building a new front wheel with a Ryde Chrina rim I’ve had waiting in the garage for a couple of years. Trying to fit a Michelin pro 4 folding bead tyre has been impossible, I couldn’t get the first bead on, let alone fitting a tube in and getting the other side fitted.

Can anyone recommend a 700 x25c tyre which usually fits on the looser side so I have a chance of getting it in the wheel.

Thanks.

Re: DMR V8 Pedals - Servicing

Don't use copper grease! It's an anti seize rather than a lubricant.
Any general purpose grease will do, some better than others bit if you have some on the shelf use it.

Re: Interest check - Grease Mobilith SHC 1500

Right, sorry for the delay, been away and then life in the way.

The grease cost 23.81 a tube, and postage is £4.40 according to royal mail's site for 1st class recorded. Round it up to £28.50 each including packing and driving to the post office to post.

Re: Interest check - Grease Mobilith SHC 1500

Ordered yesterday, 12 tubes for £285.72, making them £23.81 + p&p each. I'll post in the for sale forum when they arrive and I know how much they'll be to send on.

Re: Interest check - Grease Mobilith SHC 1500

It's got a very viscous base oil, making it well suited to slow moving bearings (bicycles are generally slow moving), and price wise is comparible if not favourable when buying in bulk to bike specific grease.

Based on replies so far I'll order 12, it's cheaper then too.

Looks like 4 & myself so far, so if there's no more interest I'll order 6 on Monday, and let you all know from there.

Good to know there's some demand. I'm going to let this thread go for a week and then order some next Monday.

Re: Interest check - Grease Mobilith SHC 1500

Hi Graham,
Thanks for the welcome.

To keep things as simple as possible, I had planned to gauge interest, then buy a suitable amount and sell after. Seems to be the easiest way, and then I wouldn't have money from people before I had a product for it.

Interest check - Grease Mobilith SHC 1500

Hi All,
I'm buying some of the aforementioned grease for maintenance of my bike. The price of it drops rapidly when buying in quantity. The tubes are 400grams, and would be ~£33 each if 5 people wanted one, and ~£26 each if another 11 wanted one. I'm wanting to know if anyone's interested before I order for myself only.

Many thanks,
Colin.
