Re: Mountain Pass Novice who suffers in heat

Thank you for the superb replies. I've learnt a lot from them. I hadn't realised how much difference an early start can make and how much difference clothing and helmet make. For your information I suffered with heatstroke in Majorca at Easter. I only cycle in the early morning or late evenings on h...

Mountain Pass Novice who suffers in heat

I am 60 in 2019 and have cycled and toured in Britain and northern Europe since I was 19 but never ridden a mountain pass because I am always ill in the hot sun e.g. suffered heat stroke in Majorca. I really would like to ride one or two as part of my 60th birthday celebrations. I do climb OK e.g. n...

Re: Inverness Secure Cycle Parking?

The result of this was that we stayed in Inverness Premier Inn with our sparkling, clean bicycles placed in extra strong bin liners: one for each wheel, and 2 or 3 per frame (dependent upon frame size). We did this out of sight of the hotel. We had no problems, a good night's sleep and no comment fr...

Re: Inverness Secure Cycle Parking?

Thank you to everyone who has contributed. I now have a number of options. I tried all of the numbers and eventually spoke to a Scotrail employee who rang Inverness station, who stated that they don't have secure cycle parking. I think that they do, but only for their own use. A non cycling friend, ...

Re: Inverness Secure Cycle Parking?

Thank you for your replies. Finding details of exactly what the secure cycle parking is at Inverness Station and how it operates is proving to be problematic e.g. Scotrail will reply to my email within 7 days and I can't find a phone number anywhere. I hoped someone local would know.

Inverness Secure Cycle Parking?

3 of us will arrive at Inverness Station on 18th August at 20:04 and need to secure our bikes for the night, before departing the following day on the North Coast 500. Sadly, our accomodation that night does not have adequate bike storage. Could anyone please advise if there are any cycle lockers at...

Re: Carlton frame number

Thank you, I am now convinced that this frame is as described, a Carlton Sports from 1954, because of the info you supplied, and the lugs match the 1955 Carlton Sports as shown on http://veterancycleclublibrary.org.uk/ncl/pics/Carlton%20catalogue%201955%20%28V-CC%20Library%29.pdf The forks appear to...

Carlton frame number

I have bought a resprayed classic road frame, number D6539. I was told that it is a Carlton Sports. It doesn't have any original decals, but does have a Carlton headtube metal makers plate, which shows a racing cyclist. Does anyone know what year it was made and model, from the frame number? Many th...
