Re: Churches - interesting

Rob Roy's grave at Balqhidder.
Have a look at the British Cycle Quest. It's full of interesting churches and graves.

Re: West Midlands Trains/London North Western

Update Yes, slower than Virgin but then overall I save time as booking a bike with virgin with a fare at any sort of reasonable price is a terrible fag and involves a longish round trip on a bike to get to a ticket office - and then I have to hope that the ticket office person (not blaming them) ca...

Re: Info please: Road surface report for B7076/NCN74 and NCN7 over Dromochter

I recently cycled south over Drumochter. I started out on NCN7 but switched over onto the A9.
I switched over because the state of the NCN7 meant it was slow going. I was touring using a road bike with 28mm tyres.

The NCN7 is rough but other than being slow, still OK with a road bike.

Re: OSMand oddities

Sweep, Can you post exactly how you find & load additional POI's into Osmand. It would be great to load Archies database together with the links you get in Archies though that's a tall order. I've added Archies to OSMand using http://www.zen21456.zen.co.uk/osmand/Import%20Wildcamping%20POI.pdf ...

Campsites aren't booked, the plan is to find campsites as we go. I've uploaded into OSMand the location of all the campsites from Archie's.
The problem with wild camping is the lack of showers after spending all day in the saddle!

Re: grand depart

Good luck on your trip. I'll be setting off from JOG on Tuesday so will be a couple of days ahead of you. We plan to take 14 days so maybe we'll see each other somewhere near Land End.

Re: Trains..

Don't bother with the split ticketing websites. You can always find cheaper fares if you do it yourself. I've just tried that link to go from Birmingham to Thurso on the 18th. I can get it for £100 that website says the cheapest is £197!

Re: Trains..

In general the further you book in advance, the greater the chance of getting cheaper tickets. Try splitting your journey so that you travel between main stations and have a separate ticket to get to that station is required. I'm doing JOGLE in a couple of weeks. The ticket from Birmingham to Thurso...

If you use the ScotRail website you'll be able to book a bike space through that.

Re: JOGLE - Advice gratefully received

Have you decided on your overnight stops and have you booked them ? This may effect your length of days mileages. There are not that many campsites in Scotland and you are into the busy time of the year. Your daily average is 70 miles (988/14) but there won't be a site exactly at these marks. Route...
