...Tacx smart trainer? I really only ride my bike in order to tour, I'm afraid I've lost any enthusiasm to go out and do the usual old routes, but I do want to get fit for a trip to the Alps. So I bought a Tacx Vortex. I've only used it to download some of the Tacx films, and the other day when I wa...

apps smart trainer

I have a trip each year to the Alps or Pyrenees or somewhere hilly in France. I start riding in earnest 3 months before and go off and do hill repeats. I will be short of time this year and I'm thinking of a smart turbo trainer. All I want it to do is let me climb Alp d'Huez/ Stelvio/Ventoux in my g...

post photos?

I've read FAQs on how to post photos, but the link given takes me to an internet domain site which seems to be nothing to do with photos
http://www.example.com/my-picture.gif.

Will I be able to post them via flickr for example?
Thanks

which is this turbo trainer?

I saved a link from the Independent from about 6 years ago which was a trainer where the software reproduced climbs such as Mont Ventoux and also had an image on a screen of the climb. I am thinking about getting a turbo trainer and i've found the link , but I can only get a photo without any descri...

Re: 2nd referendum?

I signed the petition as a result of reading that more than 70 % of under 25s voted to stay in and the future belongs to them. Also one of my relatives voted out as she wasn't going to do what David Cameron was telling her to do and wasting money sending out letters to households. Maybe some who vot...

do you use your calf muscles?

I found this chart diagram showing leg muscles used in cycling. http://home.trainingpeaks.com/blog/article/the-primary-muscles-used-for-cycling-and-how-to-train-them I've been on an exercise bike to better see my pedalling: I can look down without falling off. It looks like I don't routinely use my ...

brooks alternative

New bike and long ago converted to Brooks, which I find so comfy: I've been on 5hour rides in total comfort and shorter rides I don't need padded shorts. The B17 narrow doesn't suit but the standard is great for me. But the price of Brooks has soared and they are heavy saddles which is a shame when ...

blowing a kiss?

Just a minor incident. Possibly because I waved a vehicle behind to pass me whilst the road oncoming was clear but soon not to be with a bus and string of traffic. Driver didn't come, so I carried on. Toot Toot and another Toot Toot as he passed. come to the lights he is first in queue. I am not to ...

incident, worth notifying police

two days ago my wife was driving and heard shouting. A cyclist came into view round the corner with a 4x4 aggressively tail- gating behind. as the car overtook the passenger spat out the window at him. The cyclist thought the likely cause is that the road is very narrow and single file under a bridg...

he made money from charity shop ?exploitation

i turned on tv and there was a buying and selling antiques programme. This fellow had got into doing so, after buying a vase in a charity shop for £10 and selling it for £4000. The programme didn't say if he kept the profit of£3990 or had some feelings of conscience. What is the moral evaluation? 1)...

Re: Do I need to buy this giant defy?

Well I got the Giant Defy 4, the next model up on the basis that if I was comfortable on a bike for a 3 1/2 hour ride then that is a good test of what will suit. You can't tella lot from ten minutes down the road on a ususal test ride It is 2015 model so the price was reduced to an irresistible leve...

wall anchor: worryingly easy to remove

I have had to reorganise a bit and needed to move a wall anchor; it's the sort with a couple of rawl bolts and ball bearings to knock into the screw head. I easily tapped in a screwdriver behind it and it started to lever off the wall. Then I couldn't get it to lever any further off, but it came awa...

Do I need to buy this giant defy?

I have had a Dawes audax bike for about 8 years, really just used for day rides in summer. I've also got a 1980s tourer as a winter commute/all purpose bike. I hired a Giant Defy 5 when recently on holiday: I loved it as it fitted me spot-on, really comfortable for a 3 1/2 hour ride. I thought the c...

Re: if puncture kits are not what they used to be

I imagine hand sanitising gel would work and I usually have some. I started using it after an experiment swabbing commuters' hands on the underground. The results were pretty awful: noit washing hands after toilet. surprisingly ladies were worse than the Men.
