Re: Orwell Bridge, Suffolk
Good ride yesterday, went the inland Dunwich Dynamo route so didn't get the chance to explore the ferry services. Might go down to Bawdsey Ferry today and take a look.
I happened upon this place when I was looking for somewhere to have lunch as I was approaching Needham Market; I'm not vegetarian but it was right time / right place for my lunch stop - food was delicious and staff very friendly and helpful. Sent me on my way with my bottles full of ice; it was really hot!

Re: Orwell Bridge, Suffolk
NCN1 looks to be an interesting route although considerably meandering. I think I'd struggling make it comfortably in a day if I went that way. Definitely one to explore though.
Strava route thing came up with a decent looking route featuring mainly b roads; it goes a fair way in land, avoiding Ipswich altogether and skirting passed Needham Market.

Re: Orwell Bridge, Suffolk
Ferries look really fun! Although tempted to borrow the Dunwich Dynamo route and amend it to go Woodbridge -> Bawdsey

Orwell Bridge, Suffolk
Hi all
I'm planning to ride from London to Bawdsey (Suffolk) on Friday. Many years ago (when I was a teenager) a friend and I rode to Orford; up at 5am and went straight down the A12. I don't think I'll be taking that route on this occasion.
If I don't go over the Orwell Bridge, I'm looking at a bit of a detour into Ipswich or else hope to get a ferry across the Orwell (at Shotley?) and again at Felixstowe Ferry.
Anyone braved the Orwell Bridge recently? Is it a viable option or should I disregard that route?
Many thanks
Chas

I recently changed my rim brake blocks to Swiss stop blue - much better!

Re: Fitting mudgaurds to Charge Plug 2016 - no rear braze on
I also managed to fit the mudgaurds using a number of p clips. Needed 4 in total for the rear gaurd as none of the necessary frame features are there. The only real pain was bending a p clip to provide something to fix the gaurd at the chainstay bridge.
It's been pretty solid though, and has been well tested in wet weather over the last few months!

I have an xl, I'm just under 6'3" with 33"ish inseam. It actually ends up having slightly more saddle to handlebar drop than my road bike.

Re: Fitting mudgaurds to Charge Plug 2016 - no rear braze on
Just thought I'd add the conclusion. Charge did get back to me and wanted to help so whilst they were not able to have the drop out drilled, they did offer to send me some bits by way of a gesture of goodwill.
I accepted this and am satisfied with the outcome. The bike is good value at the price and does what I want it to do. It also occupies a niche that doesn't seem to appear in many other manufacturers product line ups.

I've sent Charge a polite reply asking them to consider if there is something more they could do. We'll see...

Re: Fitting mudgaurds to Charge Plug 2016 - no rear braze on
Right, I've now had a response from Charge:
1st response was that the bike has drilled drop outs and is suitable for mud guards. So I posted pictures showing that mine clearly doesn't have drilled rear drop outs.
2nd response was that they'd had their distributor check some more bikes, and for reasons unknown, holes are NOT present. It's "too late" to change the 2016 bikes, but I could use P clips which will be "just as good". Rather cheekily, I was also told that the problem would be addressed for the 2017 model. Great, so I can wait 6 months and then go and buy another brand new bike.
So I find myself pretty underwhelmed by this response. However I can't really think of anything further to do - ask them to send me £1.25 for the cost of two P clips?
I guess I will just get the 'guards, get P clips, be slightly annoyed and eventually forget about it.

Re: Fitting mudgaurds to Charge Plug 2016 - no rear braze on
Thanks, I was planning on SKS chromoplastics but will have a look at PDW as well.
I have emailed Charge to see if they have an explanation for the variance between what's on their website and what I have.

Thanks, they look good; cheaper and probably a bit kinder to the frame than the powder coated ones.
