New child, new bike, child seat or trailer, gear hubs... and more musings

I have my first child on the way which raises a few (cycling) dilemmas - for the past 6 years I have had one bike to 'rule them all' - a very sluggish - steel touring/roadie/commuter tank - recently due to repairs, I borrowed a whizzy/lightish flat bar for commute and inherited a Whyte road bike (wh...

Nova Scotia mini tour

Hi, my partner and I are planning a week+ mini tour while on the East coast on Canada visiting family in June. We are a bit torn between the North (Cabot Trail) or the Southern Shore - The North seems a bit more cycle focused and hilly, while the southern looks a bit less hilly but with more opportu...

Re: Cycling Jerseys that don't look too much like cycling jerseys

Thanks for the helpful comments - I don't have a beard, or any tattoos and I don't live in London. Also I have only ever bought them in sales (less than £30) and its outlasted many of my other jerseys for cycling so I think its pretty good value. If understated is essentially what you want, these Al...

Cycling Jerseys that don't look too much like cycling jerseys

Anyone got any ideas for close alternatives to chapeau cafe jersey? - http://www.chapeau.cc/cafe-jersey-blue-chest-stripe.html My original one from a few years ago is great, looks almost like an ordinary polo shirt, has served me well on numerous rides/tours, but I ordered a new one in a different s...

Re: Anyone Ditched their Car Completely for a Bike?

Driveway? Most people leave their car parked on the street in cities thereby causing a huge amount of congestion and dangerous driving/riding conditions by narrowing roads down to long stretches of single lane traffic. Worse are the ones who park with two wheels on the pavement "So that traffi...

Re: Anyone Ditched their Car Completely for a Bike?

5+ years and counting carless and only one bike - my steel do it all - commutes everyday, weekend mile muncher and touring steed (the tandem doesn't count as it's the families steed) Holidays with bikes and trains, hire cars only when there is no other option, pool cars at work for community visits....

Re: Adding New Routes to GPS on Tour

@sjs. You can do all that without the cable by sticking the sd card in the phone. What's the output file extension/format from your mapping programme please? Duh! Of course you're right, thanks. I'm so used to my old Nexus 4 (neither sdcard nor OTG) that it's a novelty to have a phone that's actual...

Re: New steel do-it-all

don't know the weight of my frame and it appears hard to find online, my build weighs in at approx. 13 KG. I almost bought a LHT instead of the jamis, but it silly sale price that made me decide on it in the end The spec I can see for the Genesis Equilibrium Disc lists the weight at a little over 1...
