So now I've made it clear that I am decades behind the times ...
Are folk here saying that the current Sniping Software is cleverer than eBay's inbuilt feature? IAMFI :-)

If you can't decide how high you'll go then I'd suggest it might be just as well if you don't have time to raise after a late bid!
Pete.
One of the last times I 'won' an auction on fleabay, I made an educated guess about what the item was worth and then put in a maximum bid much lower with the sniping software. I was actually testing the sniping software as it was still fairly new to me at the time (this was a few years ago). There were a few other bidders and a little flurry of activity in the last few seconds, and then I 'won'. £200 less than what I would have wanted if I was selling that item.

I too use it (Gixen) after ‘losing’ a few times as you have. It’s worked very well the few times I’ve bid for something I wanted on that auction site.

Gawd, that is pretty disgusting. Did this well-known retailer whose name rhymes with Jaffa ever reply to your strongly worded returns form?

Re: E Hybrid purchase ?
Thanks Jonathan, I saw that too. I've read about some issues on another forum by Specialized eMTB riders that suggest the integration with some other apps is not quite as seamless as Specialized claim.Jdsk wrote: ↑3 Feb 2024, 9:15pm"Seamless integration with your favorite partner apps, including Apple Health, Garmin, Wahoo, and Strava, means the Specialized app fits in with your way of life."Jezrant wrote: ↑3 Feb 2024, 8:47pmI'm curious how the Specialized app works with an iPhone and, in particular, with the iPhone's Health app. Are you using the app on an iPhone?ncutler wrote: ↑29 Jan 2024, 10:35pm ...
The latest version of the Specialized App captures quite a lot of information from the bike: this shows the power settings used
This was a short ride last Saturday to a local supermarket: about 15 miles, one medium hill, a couple of small ones, the usual bumpy Lancashire lanes away from the flat land near the coast: used 7% of the battery. I wasn't working very hard - just used the motor on the hilly bits. I used to do this ride quite often on non-electric bikes, but I was finding a serious knee-strain problem and don't want to risk anything getting nasty and keeping me off a bike..

Re: E Hybrid purchase ?
Thanks anyway. I had similar reservations about Apple. Never liked the corporate culture either. However, after years with Android smartphones, I switched to an iPhone when I started to encounter some really frustrating bugs with my last smartphone. Works brilliantly for me (as does an iPad).

Thanks for the update. Any more 'exciting' moments?853 wrote: ↑28 Jan 2024, 2:08pm * UPDATE *
Having shoe-horned a 28mm tyre into a frame that really wasn't big enough for it, here is what the rear brake bridge looks like after approximately 220 miles of wet roads with plenty of mud/silt/sand on them.
IMG_3747.JPG
Amazingly, I still have a full covering of paint on the brake bridge, although it is probably thinner than what it was

This pcture shows that the brake caliper, particularly the spacer washer that goes up to the brake bridge has some wear. Note the shiny metal triangular area - that wasn't there before I put the 28mm tyre on!

Re: Yorkshire Dales Cycleway - where to stay overnight x2
Why go to Tebay? The western extension isn't better than the original route, but if one of your objectives is Tan Hill, personally I'd go straight up to Kirkby Stephen from Sedbergh. I’ve done the original route three times over the years, starting not far east of Skipton and going clockwise. I've also done day loops taking in the section that's been added in the extension over to Tebay, Orton and the Ashbys. Sedbergh and Dent are nicer places to spend the night than Tebay with various options for accommodation depending on budget. Have a look at the Cyclists Welcome website for a couple of B&Bs. A place I would have recommended seems to have closed since Covid, but the Cyclists Welcome shows other options. In my experience, they tend to be good. There's also a traditional farm B&B just outside Sedbergh called Ash Hining. I haven't tried that one, but it looks good to me. You won't have any worries about your bikes, this is the Yorkshire Dales countryside, but their website says they even have a locked shed for bikes. Grinton YHA is the obvious next night as has been suggested with an obligatory stop at the Dales Bike Centre cafe for a brew and cakes before the last little slog up to the hostel. Reeth is a charming little place, but I can't recommend any accommodation there, perhaps it's changed or maybe you're less fussy than I am -- there's a large constant flux of tourists coming and going at Reeth and personally I've found the reception there not the best of the Dales, but the Dales Bike Centre is just down the road and very good indeed.
