Re: Stop Line Bandits : What to do?

They are mostly over the white lines and coming straight at me before I'm past the car. Hoping, i assume that might not hit me before I clear the roundabout junction entirely. It only takes a slight error of judgement on their part and I'm a statistic. My uncle is a driving instructor of some 40 yea...

Re: Stop Line Bandits : What to do?

I've been tempted to throw down on front of every car that's done it to me this week ;)

Disc brake clearance

Recently fitted a new Avid rotor to my centre lock wheel and it seems a bit more meaty at the centre lock. This means the whole disc sits proud on the centre lock now by about 1mm. Therotor only clears the fork blade by about 1.75mm now. Is this enough?

Re: Stop Line Bandits : What to do?

I get it nearly every day now, though they DO see me, there is eyeball contact yet they blithely inch out past the stop lines right at me! I can understand why a cyclist incensed by this blatant disregard for road safety and the highway (man) code would throw their bike down in front of a car in dis...

Re: Speed/technology/nutrition etc

I'd no idea anyone had broken 39hrs. I suppose, like you said it's not a race, though some of the audax rides I've been on this year have turned into one after about 80km. There's one guy in particular.

I keep hoping he'll puncture, but he never does ;)

Re: The Worst Bike Shop Review Ever

I'm with you sister! My wife is generally patronised in about all bike shops, just because she's a woman. However shes recently learned quite a few technical aspects of cycling after doing a Silver award bike repair course and now floors these cocky salesman with interesting jibes like 'What's the s...

Re: Stop Line Bandits : What to do?

Yes, it's quite a sizable roundabout just coming into Ayr town. What we refer to as the 'big city'! Apparently the cyclist had complete right of way and before he gets to the last junction the truck driver was already over the white line and pulling forward. I've had a Stop Line Bandit nearly every ...

Re: Stop Line Bandits : What to do?

The truck driver! The cyclist had lots of photos of him well over the white lines, which he retreated behind when the police were on their way. Afaik he's been charged with dangerous driving and various highway code infractions. To be honest, if I reported every Stop Line Bandit on my commute, I'd n...

Stop Line Bandits : What to do?

Every morning I'm stressed out by people crossing the stop lines at roundabouts and T junctions before I'm even halfway across them. It's an epidemic of law breaking! I've actually pulled a few drivers up for this and got nothing but abuse. Should I report them to the police, garner evidence? I saw ...

Re: The Worst Bike Shop Review Ever

Harry Hetchins (pictured) was apparently a bit of a grouch behind the shop counter. We used to frequent a local bike shop when we were teenagers run by two brothers. One of them was very gregarious, but the other painfully shy with a bad stutter. When the jolly one was out of the shop, when the door...

Re: Vittoria randonneur-trial - anyone use?

I just checked, the only UK source is now 'out of stock'. They're quite difficult to source. Another excellent tyre is the Kenda Eight Block 700c. It's designed by John Tomac, rolls very fast and is very grippy, even on wet wood and grass. Are available quite cheaply too, with some eBay sellers putt...

Re: Mixing chainring brands - ramps pins etc

I've been using BBB chainrings to replace all my worn Shimano ones for a few years now, the quality is definitely up there with Ulregra and they are significantly cheaper. The also sell 4 bolt chain rings too.
