High Level Plan;

The van would do the pickups and drop off at JOG.
Meet the party at the end of week one with spares, clothing and any other essentials, again at the end of week 2 then collect and do drop-offs at the end of week 3.
Riders would carry a minimum of a tent and sleeping bag or tent share and split the load, one set of spare clothing plus wet weather jacket.
... :)

And a sleeping mat and a pillow. Nick would not be happy to forgo a pillow again [emoji1787]
A morning coffee is essential for me but a lightweight stove and meths weighs nothing.
It’s surprising how little difference the weight makes unless climbing steep hills.

Record attempt scheduled

Going through Berridale won’t help her schedule. Fingers crossed she can do it.

Sadly I can’t get 3 weeks away from work. I did this year but it caused some uproar. I will try to join you for a week or some weekends.

Lejog for wimps please- or am I on my own? ( merged )

So I'm actually picking up a geared Surly Ogre on Friday and am thinking of riding coast to coast France, mainly off road, self supported sounds like a plan (obviously if anyone's close enough please feel free to come round and slap me). I only thought of this whilst riding this morning, so no thought has gone into it at all. I'll post up a separate thread on the touring forum, as finding a route might be a good start......

I’m in. When do we start

I have a bikepacking tent even smaller than Nick’s. Who even knew that was possible.
I like Wimps-The comeback.
I will work on Cally, I’ve got a spare bike she can use [emoji1787]

I could be tempted to ride the opposite route. Inland via Altnaharra would be s preference. We drove home that way and it was very rural, although not the best road surface.
I may not be able to convince the designated driver to do it again so might have to camp.

A house full of giggles is more fun than a bikepacking trip any day. There is always another trip.
Maybe we should arrange a wimps bikepacking coast to coast.

Yes, the "Party" ... so the super triathletes are going to wait around for the old guys to turn up 7 days later .... Swiss cheese comes to mind ...
However !!! lets see as we get closer to the actual event ...

So have you signed up David. I had a good look at the route and the shot route looks lovely. I might consider this for next year.

So are you thinking, credit card / B&B or full monty bike packing / camping???

Bike packing / camping ... spent an awful lot of time under polyester ... and without the support of Julie and Hattie the camper van ... i'd rather have the ability to stop when I want, or have too, without prior planning. Food from garages and fast food outlets ...

That sounds great David. Worth some research for lightweight kit and basic cook sets.
Having hot drink and basic food options makes camping so much better.
I managed 23kg loaded for the alps but reckon I could now shave around 5kg off that. There is something very nice about bikepacking where the only things that matter are riding, finding sustenance and somewhere to camp for the night.

robing wrote:I've had a Vango Blade 100 one man tent for 4 years and it's been a great tent for cycle touring. Only 1.5kg. The beauty of this tent is that it has a single pole that runs lengthways so you get decent height, enough to sit up. Plus it has a porch. They don't make it any more but you may be able to get one second hand or eBay Amazon etc

I also have the Blade and think it’s a great tent. It weighs in around 1.6kg and packs reasonably small.
I also have a 3F Ultralight tent off Aliexpress. 700 grams and packs to almost the same size as my bivvy.
It’s totally dependant on what you need. There is no right answer.

Great result. Those 900ish miles of training obviously helped. But the important question is....Did you wake up with a hangover?
