Re: Scientists say high cadence is inefficient

Re: Scientists say high cadence is inefficient

“So why do newbies try spinning in a low gear when it is isn’t worth it? Formenti has a theory. “They might presume that the smoother blood flow at a higher cadence keeps the exercising muscle well oxygenated.”

They may do, but they may just find it easier spin a low gear

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Loads and loads of heel dips and calf stretches morning and evening repeated for many weeks worked for me, but perhaps my tendon was not as badly damaged as the Original Poster’s

Re: Is cycling the best physiotherapy?

Cycling is gentle on muscular and soft tissue issues as it’s modest weight bearing compared to exercises that involve standing/moving on your feet.

Surely the aim should be to have as light as bike as possible that is consistent with intended use for the bike, your personal comfort requirements, and budget constraints.

Re: Why don't more people use recumbents?

Don’t know much about them. My perception is that you are sat quite low, which would be unpleasant in an urban environment with exhausts etc, and annoying in the countryside, more difficult to admire the view.

Re: The String Test for are you too fat?

Things like this are silly. Our perceptions of fat are culturally driven. Unless someone is clinically obese, they are likely to have a better health outcome than someone who is underweight, and no different than someone who is 'normal' weight. A couple of generations ago 'pleasingly plump' was a t...

Re: What insoles to buy for plantar fasciitis?

Achilles tendinitis can take several weeks to heal. It’s vital that inthe first week or so that you try to keep weight off your feet. So as a little walking as possible. Thereafter increase walking gradually. Do not do stretching exercises until the tendon has recovered and you no longer feel any pa...

Re: Power Banks

In response to the "what's wrong with a Garmin" question - probably nothing - I simply don't have one, but I do have a phone which seems to offer me the same thing - but with a poor battery life - without the expense of buying another gadget. With a power bank and a Lezyne phone caddy I c...

Re: Blood Pressure after a ride

Years ago in my younger days, I did x/c foot races, and I recall being particularly light headed afterwards in the evenings. A doctor told me at the time that during exercise blood pressure increases, and afterwards dips. The more intense the exercise the more noticeable the effect.

I think that during exercise blood pressure increases and afterwards falls. The more intensive the exercise, the more marked the effect.
