Re: Quill stem to A head adapter frozen in steerer

Hi All, This has been fascinating reading, the pinned thread on this forum about seat post removal, the Sheldon Brown article, with those chemicals dissolving aluminium, Jobst Brand, and all the many suggestions made here. Still, I took it to the shop today as I don't have time to do all that, besid...

Re: Quill stem to A head adapter frozen in steerer

Hello everyone, Apologies for not replying earlier but bike issues have not been my only problem - IT issues I've had too so could not get to this forum. Thanks for all your suggestions though - I hadn't even thought about taking the fork out. However, it might be possible as indeed there's a shim o...

Quill stem to A head adapter frozen in steerer

Hi All, The quill stem to A head adapter is frozen in the steerer. This video goes through all the stages (degreaser, vinegar, tapping with hammer, and finally sawing out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GRbdnTRH-4 I've so far done only the beginning stage, i.e. taped the top of the adapter, put th...

Overinflating tyre to make rim explode

Hi All, I want to check rim wear on a bike without rim wear indicator. The advice was to grossly overinflate, but by how much? Is it twice the pressure that's mentioned on the tyre, and then for a short while? Another version was to 'slightly' overinflate, and then leave over night. Again, what pres...

Re: 'zero reach' stem for 1.1/8 steerer

women's specific design,... thanks for the explanations, 531 colin and horizon. I've not read through all the links but would like to contribute that I believe that 559 wheels are much better for smaller people. My wife of 5.2" even has a beautiful Roberts built audax bike around 15 years old ...

Re: 'zero reach' stem for 1.1/8 steerer

Hi All, Thanks for all your replies. peterh11: I'd like to reduce the reach on my wife's new and very small Specialised racing bike. Although a women specific design with shortish top tube the bike has 622 wheels and the reach is overall longer than on her touring bike with 559 wheels. 'zero reach' ...

'zero reach' stem for 1.1/8 steerer

Hi, Would someone know if a 'zero reach' stem (aka 'centre' stem) exists for 1.1/8 steerer? I've read about it, but for 1" steerer (https://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/exclusive-mondraker-unveil-radical-new-centre-stem-32859/) also here, https://www.crucialbmxshop.com/crupi-i-beam-stem.html,...

Re: Tubus rear racks: Cargo vs Logo

Sorry, very late response but I thought the alternative I found might be interesting for others. I eventually ordered a rack from Islabikes; BEINN 26" small with 345mm height. the struts to connect to the setastays fitted well although tubus struts, which are more versatile, fit too. I'm quite ...

Re: Chainring, 5 arms, 58 mm BCD?

Dear All,
A late response, I know, but just to let you know that the tiny, 30 T chainwheel worked very well on my tour through the mountains of lower Bavaria, Bohemia and along the hilly route along the Vltave into Prague. 2 panniers, with 6 kg each, and I only had to dismount once on a 16% incline.

Re: Ortlieb bar bag mounting cable for adapter seized

Hello and thank you everyone for your replies. I tried soaking with WD40 and Plusgas but the screw would not become undone. I think there was some misunderstanding - the silver hex screw you see from the front of the adapter did turn but the brass nut plus cable inside the adapter turned with it so ...
