Dear all,
Thanks, Javatime, Airsporter1st, rogerzilla, Identicalbutlighter, jimlews, richardfm, hamster, ANTONISH, MartinC, for all your contributions.
Very interesting to read them all.
Yesterday I picked up the bike, eager to find out which of the numerous approaches the mechanic might have used. Staring at him in great suspense he finally said: ”sorry, I cannot remember”!!! “Too long ago, mate”.
Apparently it didn’t seem to have been the all-consuming affair for him that it had been for me. But then he handed me the spindle and seemed to recall he stripped the pedal, sprayed the spindle and used some grip to twist it out of the crank.
That’s it, bike’s running again.
Have a nice Sunday everyone.

Re: Pedal stuck in crank
thx again, alxnharvey, for the suggestions and I think I'm going the 'right' way, literally. Looking at the first photo I posted from the inside of the crank I turn the allen key clockwise

Re: Pedal stuck in crank
Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. I bought some plus gas alternative at Halfords, and sprayed and tapped away all three days over the BH weekend, occasionally heating with a hair dryer. I only managed to make the Allen bolt worse still, so it's a trip to the shop unfortunately.
Best wishes

Pedal stuck in crank
The right hand pedal is stuck. I’ve damaged the bolt for the Allen key.
You cannot loosen the pedal with a spanner from the outside as you would do with normal pedals as it’s an Ergotec pedal, https://www.ergotec.de/de/produkte/peda ... /ep-1.html
I’ve laid the bike on the side and sprayed WD40 over the bolt/axle and tapped the crank with a hammer to perhaps assist the fluid to penetrate into the thread. That’s how I loosened the other side quite quickly.
Any other advice would be very welcome. Otherwise I suppose it’s atrip to the bike shop.

Re: Can I install a disc brake to this rear wheel?
I don't know. The sliding adapters are quite chunky and additionally have a little raised 'lip' round the drop out. The fitting is very tight and I always struggled very much to re-fit the wheel. The shop mechanic even confirmed that he could not get it back into the triangle by himself.
I'm thinking of having the lips filed away next time I need to remove the wheel.

Re: Can I install a disc brake to this rear wheel?
No worries alexnharvey, it was a learning experience and you might be right - that sliding adapter makes the rear triangle quite tight so it's difficult to fit such an adapter. It might fit better on a FRAME designed for it.

Re: Topeak Smarthead difficult to remove from valve
Thanks Paulkentuk and AndyK,
Yes, maybe I should ditch the pump. However, thanks for the tip to loosen the metal collar. That already made pulling off the pump head much easier.

Topeak Smarthead difficult to remove from valve
Hi,
I've got this Topeak Smarthead, fitted with hose to an SKS pump for around 10 years.
https://www.wiggle.com/p/topeak-smarthe ... lsrc=aw.ds
Even after all those years it's still very hard to pull off and after I've damaged yet another tyre by pulling the head off a sclaverand valve I thought I ask for some advice. I do hold the valve with fingers of one hand as best as I can when pulling off the head and I release the thumb lever before pulling off the head. Still, I bang my knuckles into the spokes every time.
Any advice how to make the process of pulling off the head smoother would be welcome.
Best wishes

Hi,alexnharvey wrote: ↑9 Nov 2022, 7:49am There are some German adapters that will convert a nexus roller brake fitting to a disc brake fitting but they are expensive.

a late feedback, but I thought you might be interested. I ordered that adapter for a disc brake but the rear triangle frame is so tight that it wouldn't fit.
DevonDamo, you suggested servicing the existing V-brake which is what the shop did. I was absolutely astonished by the result. Smooth as silk now. They said they just used some top end Shimano outer and cable.

Re: Manual shifter for SHIMANO ALFINE DI2 8spd?
Thanks, rareposter, for the no-nonsense clarification. The kind of comment that's missing on the almost flawless sheldon brown.
Thanks also, simonineaston, for pointing out, for starters, the difference look - I hadn't noticed.

Manual shifter for SHIMANO ALFINE DI2 8spd?
Good morning,
Can you use the Alfine manual shifter for the SHIMANO ALFINE DI2 Internal Geared Hub 8-speed? I'm thinking of buying this:
ALFINE Di2 SG-S7051,
https://www.bike-discount.de/en/shimano ... k-gear-hub
which is cheaper than the
ALFINE SG-S7001,
https://www.bike-discount.de/en/shimano ... 02&c=23485
The table at the bottom of https://www.sheldonbrown.com/nexus8.shtml says 'Electrical (Di2) shifting. Mostly compatible with SG-7001-8 but axle assembly and right-hand cone assembly are different.'
That 'compatibility' I believe refers to the hub itself but it does not say that you can use a manual shifter with that hub which is designed for electronic shifting.
Any responses greatly received.
Regards
Matthias

Thanks, PH, I need to bring it to a shop anyway and armed with my knowledge gained here will ask them to check it.
