Re: CTC Council member critically ill after accident

The driver pleased guilty eventually to causing death by dangerous driving, and we now await the sentence.

He was unhappy that John was riding in the correct place on the road ?

Beeped his horn? It was such a significant & prolonged BLAST of the horn that it prompted people whose houses are set back from the road to stop what they were doing & look out of the window

RIP John, a gentleman & great cyclist

I believe for the last 7 or so years the majority of CTC staff engaged have been on short term contracts linked to funding streams at the end of which they are redundant?

Re: What is a CTC Member?

BC has a similar package for me.

As with all insurance I'd check the small print, I believe BC insurance does not cover you if 2 riders collide or one causes an incident for another, so called rider on rider cover, whereas I understand CTC insurance does?

Small but possibly important if correct?

What does this mean? If it is a formal event, registered with BC, they are covered under event insurance. If it is an informal event, it may be covered under event insurance, depending on the arrangements with BC. If it just a club run, or something like that, Gold and Silver members should be covered according to their policies, independent of the membership of other people involved. It's worth noting that only Gold includes personal accident insurance. Silver only includes liability insurance. So, in an incident where liability cannot be determined, only Gold members are likely to be able to claim.

I was told by BC staff that rider on rider incidents were not covered , on an event the only claim would be where the organiser was at fault, so on a sportive for example, and 2 riders crash, it is not the organisers fault?

CTC individual ( as opposed to affiliate) insurance did cover rider on rider

Re: What is a CTC Member?

Some great points and views coming out. Ian, genuinely interested to try & understand why members might leave CTC & join BC? It is worth highlighting although slightly drifting topics that AFAIK BC insurance does not cover rider on rider claims where both are BC members , for example on a club run or event

What is a CTC Member?

Whilst respecting the interest of those present, after all you take time to be interested & comment.

As a topic for discussion, and not a personal comment.

CTC members join/remain for the insurance aspect and not for community, campaign or comradeship?
Clarkson for president, he rides a bike too!

I love cycling, I drive a car too occasionally, he is maybe the other way round (car first?) but he would help CTC to get so much more publicity. That would butter tons of parsnips.

How many people know Clarkson? How many know the CTC, this great club of ours?
Check the date this was circulated?

Re: No more CTC technical officer ** NO HOAX **

A question was raised about Guildford communicating that posts were being made redundant, as this is a managerial decision, and as a substantial number of posts have been made redundant over the last 4 years or so, I am not aware that it has ever been raised that such decisions be consulted or communicated?

Re: No more CTC technical officer ** NO HOAX **

Chris, I think if you look back CTC has never made announcements on staff redundancies

It is probably best not comment on the individual case, as it may still be subject to the process?

That aside I would say that where a member of staff leaves and organisation they have worked at for many years, and that is done in good standing, then it may be reasonable to expect some notification of that, some thanks from the organisation and in the case of CTC as a membership body to tell members who may have had cause to interact or work with that person to pass on their wishes, and I hope this is something which may be noted?

Re: No more CTC technical officer ** NO HOAX **

I hope that with comments about the direction & governance of CTC, the item in cycle shorts on P12 , about council elections will not have been missed and that some of you may consider putting your names forward for this voluntary role?

As has been mentioned, all too often the posts are not contested, so with all the interest in CTC matters and views of the way it could/should be managed , and with the important matters of governance & identity coming soon I am sure there will be much to get involved with as well as representing our membership

Re: The CTC - is it vulnerable?

I have recently browsed the thread and there seems to be a lot of loyalty and interest in the CTC, which is great. I am very interested by comments/information where CTC is alleged to have not taken opportunities and wonder if any reason was given for this? I know the Stourbridge model was used in North Yorkshire by Wheeleasy some years ago to great success

When matters have caused concern may I ask if members have contacted the office or have they tried their local CTC councillor who is there to work with/for members?
