I wear sealskinz - waterproof, but that makes them windproof too.

Re: Interfering stranger lecturing my son about bike clothing

Interesting article here about the Dutch and their attitude to cycling https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2018/8/28/17789510/bike-cycling-netherlands-dutch-infrastructure Hopping on a bike to ride to shops/school/work no more makes you a cyclist than walking to the station makes you a rambler - ...

The 'donate' button on the website gives an email address of admin@bikehike.co.uk - so might be worth dropping a line. The error message is "You have exceeded your request quota for this API. See https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/error-messages?utm_source=maps_js&u...

As a woman I choose to ride a "man's bike".

There's no reason why a man can't choose to ride a lady's bike.

Re: Trustee elections 2018

Hmmm, I definitely didn't get specific emails. Got two last year, nothing this year. Was wondering if I was the only one. (I do get cycleclips, but clearly don't always read! There was nothing in the subject about trustee elections.) I've emailed the office to find out why I didn't get them. I'd be...

Re: Trustee elections 2018

There was an email to members specifically about the trustee vacancies on 21 June, with a follow-up reminder on 14 July. It also got mentioned in Cycleclips on 15 June, 22 June and 7 July (possibly others, I don't keep them all). - Andy (current trustee) Hmmm, I definitely didn't get specific email...

Re: What would you do differently?

I'd check the Cromatry/Nigg ferry was running before cycling to Cromatry! Double check any ferries you're relying on - we had to rely on the goodwill of some local fishermen to get us across. (We're not as stupid as we sound - the website had the timetable, and no indication that it wasn't running f...

Re: What tours have you done? What do you want to do?

Only a fraction of what you've all done

Cycles of more than a couple of days include

- Reading to Bude
- LeJoG via Arran and Mull
- London to Paris via Avenue Verte
- Cycle tour of Cuba (organised and supported)

On my todo list is the St Malo to Nice - hoping to do it in the next few years.

Trustee elections 2018

Just found the page that says that applications closed end of July.

I didn't get any emails about the elections - did others?

Re: Death by Dangerous Cycling

If we are going to get vindictive about things (and I believe this proposal is a purely vindictive law given the low death rate) then why not: Death by dangerous Planning: This would be where a planner wilfully refuses to make changes after warnings given over a dangerous junction/road/path/state o...

Main thing is they got the sponsorship money, but were they committing fraud? Did the witness note their numbers? If you 'sponsor' anyone for any organised charity event, you are making a donation to the charity. They are fundraising for the charity but all the Ts&Cs make it clear that your mon...

Re: First ever road bike. Need opinion

I have a CX type bike which is perfect for commuting. You need to ensure that the frame is strong enough for panniers, and you have the lugs for mudguards.

It's worth finding out if your new employer offers a cycle to work scheme - get your nice new bike tax free!

Re: Best way to keep cool

Otherwise try an alternative form of exercise/sport. Having not swum for 30 years in a pool, I took it up during the summer months to avoid excess dehydration and maintain fitness. 100-150 lengths at speed 4-5 occ's per week is effective This year I've taken up open water swimming. I don't know why...
