Re: Touring on an electric bike?

In my experience, most French campsites have a few spare hook-up cables, so I don't think that should be a problem.

Last year on EV6 somewhere on the Saone a site was offering free hook-ups for cyclists. Madame seemed quite suprised that we weren't on electric bikes!

They have a shop in Bristol as well.

You can quite often get decent free cycling maps at Tourist Information centres in France.

My Visa debit, credit and pre-paid cards were refused in two different Aldi branches in the Netherlands last summer.

Re: Geraint Thomas....

Has anyone read the Sunday Times article? Do we know if he called for compulsion, or if this is the BBC's interpretation of his words? I have. It quotes him as saying "I would certainly make helmets compulsory" Of course it is one line from a 4 page article in the magazine which the Times...

Re: Grand Union Canal

Something else to bear in mind is that the hedges are often cut in early September, leaving lots of hawthorn clippings on the paths (I speak from experience!)

Re: YHA wales closed for off season?

I don't know if it's the reason, but the week after next (up to 5th November) is half term in some parts of Wales

Re: Trangia stoves

On our recent trip to France we had temperatures of 30C+ well into the evening. We found that we couldn't extinguish the burner with the simmer ring in the usual way, but had to leave the remaining meths to burn away. Has anyone else experienced this, or found a solution to the problem? Thanks.

Loire cycleway in August

We have had to postpone our planned trip along the Loire in early June (upstream from Tours). The only time available for us to re-arrange this year is the second half of August - was looking for any comments on the weather and the fullness of campsites at this time of year. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to make sure no-one had any negative comments about any of the hotels near the drop off point.

Bike friendly hotel Tours

Hi all, I have been lurking for some time but this is my first post.

We are taking the Bike Express to Tours in June and would like recommendations on the best (closest, easiest with bikes) hotel to use I think we arrive in the early hours of the morning, which might make a difference. Thanks.
