I was riding all the PD trails without suspension or particular issue 30 years ago - i'd tackle many of them on my CX bike even now. Ride what you have, skills are more important than fancy gubbins. Same here. I went from rigid to HT in the early 90s,FS in 2000,back to HT/FS in 2010,HT only in 2015...
