Re: Petite lady looking for comfy road bike

Hi Lou-Rolls, My wife is a bit shorter than me, she is 4ft 11 and in May this year she bought a Specialized Sirrus 1 XS size for £450 at our local bike shop. We have kept the original stem and changed the almost straight flat bars for a pair of Brand X swept back bars like these; https://www.wiggle....

Re: Folding bike - loaded touring but also commuting too?

Just in case you still want to look at a folding bike - here is a link to a couple who tour with a young child. FWIW, my wife and I enjoyed a 7 day tour of part of Belgium and the Zeeland region of the Netherlands on Bromptons in May 2018. We only averaged 25 to 35 miles per day and it was really go...

Re: Rotterdam, or anywhere, anywhere but home.

In May 2018 we enjoyed a 7 day tour on Bromptons from Zeebrugge to Europort. We got the overnight ferry from Hull (and overnight back from Europort to Hull) and our first day from Zeebrugge was to Gent. Day 2 was train to Eeklo (Belgium) then cycle to Middleburg in the Netherlands via the cycle &...

Re: Big and Tall Rider looking for a bike

If you could spend a bit more a possible solution might be to have a handmade frame;

Re: Which bike to get?

Hi Poppy Welcome to the forum and well done on getting back on your bike. My wife (We are both women) has recently bought a Specialised Sirrus bike from our local bike shop. This was just after lockdown ended. The bike shop were really helpful and they allowed her to ride the bike around the car par...

Re: Transgender athletes (and related stuff)

Seems reasonable to me. The Equality Act 2010 has after all been law for 10 years. Would it be reasonable to have police officers who recognise some laws or parts thereof but not others?

Re: Transgender athletes (and related stuff)

And here is a Telegraph article which gives a fascinating insight into the possible reasons for the dramatic rise in the contagion of left-handedness;

Re: Transgender athletes (and related stuff)

Here is an interesting article on the incidence of left-handedness and how left handed people have been treated worldwide. Spot the similarity with the way that Trans people are similarly treated https://www.rightleftrightwrong.com/history_recent.html#:~:text=Even%20in%20the%20relatively%20free,chai...

Re: Surly Troll - New fork with longer steerer

Hi PH Thank you for posting a reply so quickly. I should have said it was an uncut steerer :) I have tried an extender but it felt wobbly (I may have mounted it wrongly) on off road rides so I took it off. I hadn't thought about having it welded by a bike builder. I will make some enquiries. Many th...

Surly Troll - New fork with longer steerer

Hi, I have a 2014 model Surly Troll that I have had and enjoyed (for the most part) for 6 years and around 4,000 miles, mainly as a commuting bike and for occasional off road rides. The issue that I have (and which stops me using it for longer journeys) with the bike is the relatively short steerer ...

Re: New bike choice - Surly disk trucker ? - 26 inch wheels - frame size ?

I have a Disc Trucker and Troll, both with 26 inch wheels. The DT is a 62cm (which looks slightly odd) but I love it. I bought it for overseas touring and have used it on everything from Audax to offroad rides. It's not light or very fast but I have a 700 wheel steel framed bike that is. If you take...

Re: Chainset swap 7 to 9 speed

Hi, thanks very much for all of your replies. I didn't include this detail before but my wife has a bespoke built bike with 150mm cranks already and loves it. She has had that bike for 7 years and we have had several thousand happy miles touring. The only problem is that when we moved house (just be...
