Re: Boris Johnson: Why is a proven liar in power?

For those who think that none of the leaders are suitable to be PM so you won't bother voting - I suggest you vote with the intention that none of them get a majority big enough to do whatever they want...

Re: Hong Kong

Yeah but the extradition treaty was so unnecessary - China can simply kidnap people from HK and lock them up in China. Could have simply carried on with that and avoided all this aggro. And anyone who complained too much could be sent for re-education a la Uighur.

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Yuuuup! It's all their fault, the wicked Tories. Four legs good two legs bad. The situation is that many of the ills you mention require investment to produce the wealth that ultimately pays for social services and care of the vulnerable. The Soviet Union and it's satellites collapsed and China ado...

Re: Tower Block Disaster

What I think might be valid about the JRM comments is as to why the fire was allowed to progress for as long as it did before LFB questioned it's own plan, time is always a major factor in the prevention of death occurring? Had I and my family been in such a situation I would have defied the advice...

I see Rees-Mogg has said that if the authorities tell you to Leave then you should just use common sense and ignore them.

Re: Alpine lake tour suggestions

How far would you want to go in 4-6 days? Tour round Lake Geneva is about 200km and would be quite suitable for you.

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

..... yes the conncession was to the WHOLE UK WIDE backstop , NOT THE ORIGINAL Northern Ireland only backstop. BOTH are unacceptable is Boris' claim...... In which case why has he voted supporting the agreement? As did many of his cabinet. Why? 1) Because they didn't understand it? 2) Because the c...

Re: MPs say people will have to get out of their cars

According to "No Planet B", using 2018 UK statistics, the biggest use of energy is transport: 38% of the total.

Truth is of course that we need to use less energy in all sectors.

Vorpal, I guess you have more sense than the average Pokemon Go punter.

My suggestion is For Whom The Bell Tolls by Hemingway.

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

So who's position is dishonest? After three years, we need to go back to the start. An honest Brexit is possible, but nothing, so far, about the Government's approach has been honest, and for that reason it will fail. It's only a matter of how soon and how much damage is caused along the way. In te...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

The serious point is that the UK govt claims to want to avoid a hard border, and claims to believe that "alternative arrangements" can easily be devised to achieve that, even if UK quits customs union and single market. EU's response has been that just in case those arrangements won't quit...

Re: Bikes on trains in Spain

I don't know about the line to Palencia, but I have been on the Feve line from Bilbao southwestwards towards Leon and it does take bikes. Also only one train a day I think, but the timings may fit better with ferry.

Re: Cycling London to Amsterdam

I did London-Harwich last summer using cycle.travel's route, which worked pretty well. I didn't have a GPS, but printed off the cycle.travel route maps (and cue sheets for the tricky bits) - I did use my phone to help escape the twisty maze of Chelmsford. The route's roughly NCR 13 to South Hornchu...
