Re: The Brexit thread

Re respecting the result of the referendum - you may not have noticed that UK has left the EU. Full stop. The debate now is about what relationship UK has with the EU, how UK avoids trashing the GFA, etc. Except that Johnson and his chums don't want us to have such a debate - they want to press on w...

If you find someone injured and needing assistance, don't you call an ambulance rather than the police?

PS: But it's equally scathing on many other fronts. Indeed. People who are happy for the govt to break foreign law would do well to read all the comments on how this Bill is riding roughshod over the UK constitution and allowing alarmingly wide powers to ministers. Taking back control? I didnt thin...

Re: HMRC and Air BNB to collude

And yet when Covid struck there was a lot of sympathetic coverage of the tradesmen who had paid themselves entirely in dividends (and cash) so weren't eligible for the self-employed support (which was based on declared taxable income). I had no sympathy at all, but I guess quite a few journalists fe...

Re: Breaking International Law

... I suppose the honest thing to have done would be to have just left and let the EU and the UK struggle how to keep the GFA after the fact but think of the chaos that would have brought? In effect this is what Johnson is now proposing to do. Stick two fingers up at the EU and see what chaos resul...

I reckon about 160km from Montespluga in Italy to Landau in Germany via Liechtenstein, making 5 countries. Mostly downhill too!

Re: PROMS-BBC disappoint

From the Prime Minister's spokesperson: .... [The WA] was agreed at pace in the most challenging possible political circumstances Why did it have to be agreed at pace? Was it because Johnson had promised to agree the WA by October/January? And he wouldn't want to be called out for making unachievab...

Re: Post-Covid-19: Could some ferry operators ban cyclists?

My trip in May with Brittany Ferries got cancelled. I have now rebooked it for next year, using my credit note and a thank-you discount - no problems booking the bikes.

Re: Munich to Venice

If you want to go west then I recommend the Fernpass/Reschenpass route. Much quieter than Brenner pass Once you are in Italy you could stop around Glurns and do a side trip up Stelvio. From Trento you are in Italian Italy on the via Claudia Augusta. The route via Pieve Tesino is nice, and then you c...

A nice long article debunking the myth that most of those who have died with Covid-19 would have died of something else this year anyway.

Re: Is the UK government an incompentent bunch of liars?

Isn't this thread meant to be about whether the govt are an incompetent bunch of liars? Not about their poll ratings? I don't see anyone disputing the incompetence and the lies. The latest one is the fake claim to have carried out 100,000 tests on Thursday. "Achieved" by including in the f...

Re: Suggestions & tips for biking in UK

Hi and welcome! What sort of thing do you have in mind?
- a region where you can base yourselves for a week and do several day rides?
- or would you aim to travel to a new place each day, maybe carrying camping gear?

And on-road (quiet roads), or off-road?

Re: Superb interview by Chris Boardman on BBC Breakfast

Criticism has been for those like Michael Gove who stupidly suggested a 1 hour limit, despite that not being the law or even the official guidance. Fortunately that has been knocked back since.

Good to see none of that nonsense in this discussion.

One way or another, a sudden spike in deaths. What's your explanation if not COVID?
