Re: Is the Bob Yak trailer still made?

It don't make no never mind which sort of single wheel you use - we have accumulated upmteen trailers over the years, and use all of them at different times. The Bob is the star performer, but I also have an early model 'lookalike' that now has over 100,000 miles under its wheel, and apart from tyres nary a problem.

Best advantage of a ;single' is when negotiating gates or 'pinches' on French voie vertes - no need to dismount, no need to nothing - faithfully followed every time.

LeJog 24

Hello Folks, anyone remember me?

Now back from a long tour abroad, and have now been told that we will be heading south to PZ in September before turning northwards immediately that we arrive there - for what will be my 24 LeJog, whilst the legs can still do it.

Need some help with gardens/fields to camp in - dead old now and pretty broke - so if anyone fancies helping I'll offer a free camping holiday in rural France during summer '23 in fair exchange. The only cost would be one bottle of Muscadet per night, but then - you do get to drink half of it.

Pz - Bris - Wigan - Carlisle - Edinburgh - Perth - Inverness - Helmsdale roughly, no dates or fixed mileage, anything goes.

Happy Days? - I'll say. Christopher.

Re: Tai-chi as a tool for growing old

Vorpal, here we go once again: just because someone has a different view to yours, you jump onto your high horse.

it's a while now since you had a 'nick' at me - perhaps you have not been reading my posts - but as a Moderator you need to be just that, and to be even-handed to everyone's point of view, especially if it is a view opposite to one of yours.

This is, after all, a cycling forum, so ought to be considering fitness for that exercise - and not pandering to the Forum members that in fact never go out cycling but just like to see their names in print. You will know who they are, just as well as everyone else on here does.

If you want to use a panacea to placate your conscience about fitness then I don't care, that's entirely up to you, but don't for one moment even consider suggesting that waving your arms around gently will ever get you fit enough for cycling.

A sunny day, so I'm off out for a ride in a moment: lots of those lovely Cornish hills for me to tackle this afternoon.

Happy days,

Re: Tai-chi as a tool for growing old

It's a con.

Designed for those who think that, by waving their arms around gently for five minutes, it will make them fitter - it won't.

Just a psychological cop-out (oo, just look at me, exercising ...).

Correct food, gentle walking, less television, and a realisation of what being stupid means will have far more effect. It's as bad as the adverts on television where they deliberately use overweight female models to extract money from other fatties. Yes, FAT - no excuses, you made yourself like that, so who can you blame but yourself?

There has never been any alternative to a positive attitude and hard work.

Happy days (from a contented, fit, active, and un-connable cyclist)

Re: Would you report your neighbours?

Hello. My next door farming neighbours in France have nine children, all of whom are now married with children of their own - and in some cases, grandchildren as well.

My region of France (as large as Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset combined) has only had six suspected, but proved negative, cases of this virus since the panic started all those months ago - and not a single death.
If some distant politician suggested to my neighbour that he should limit his household gatherings to six, I can imagine what his response might be - but the 'swearing' mods prevent me from repeating it here.

Please, stupid politicians, stop counting the increase in 'cases' - which one might expect when testing itself increases - but let us know what the current death rate is, and break this down into vulnerable groups, age groups, and ethnic groups. You will then know where and who to test first. This approach will save millions of wasted pounds, and also allow hospitals to open again to those with other more serious conditions - and many have recently died because of political stupidity.

Can the government please get rid of Chris Whitty? He may be a medical academic, but as a structured advisor he is useless - as are many that Bojo and his cronies rely upon, because they have not a sensible brain cell of their own.

This country is going down the pan; countless amounts wasted on what is nought but a virus, countless amounts spent on Brexit, and countless amounts spent on the pensions of those in power - is there NO-ONE in Westminster who can stop the rot?

Happy days? Huh!

Re: Out-and-back or circuit?

Bob, hello,
Quarantine is completely daft when you have had no contact with anyone for two weeks, which was my case whilst in France - and, in any case, during the last six months, my region of France - as large as Cornwall, Devon & Somerset combined - has only had 6 possible but not confirmed cases of the virus, and the only serious case of illness affected the Mayor when he over-indulged in some pretty rough old 'red' one night, and said that, 'my bum feels like it's on fire'. Better put a mask on it, I said.
Being rather old-fashioned (it's difficult not to be at my age) our business runs on face to face meetings and trust - but, in any case and once again, I, personally, that is me myself, never met a soul - I suggest ways to do the accounts, read the minutes of recent management meetings, and advised accordingly - then went home again.

Treat adults like adults and they will thus behave; treat them like naughty children and they will continue in the same vein.

Happy days? Not with this lot of idiots in charge of us (and that comment is structurally, not politically, based)

Re: Who still couriers bike boxes?

As always with me, slightly off-post: if anyone needs bikes transporting to or from France I go back and forth with a large-ish vehicle fairly regularly (or will be, once again, when the stupid quarantine regs disappear). About once a month.

Usually Plymouth to Roscoff but sometimes Portsmouth to St Malo, then down as far as La Rochelle.

Sometimes room for (legitimate) passengers as well. Rich widows my speciality.

Re: Out-and-back or circuit?

Out.

Camp.

Return a different way.

I know, that's two days, but from my house to the Loire is almost exactly 160km, so I can get in two rides of 100 miles each in a weekend. The local village cycle club won't come out riding with me - wonder why?

If, of course, I were back in France again: it's been a shambles this year, trying to organise anything. I've just finished one quarantine period, need to go over to France pretty soon, but then have to come back almost immediately for a business meeting - and two more weeks alone, when I and everyone I know is virus free, is plain daft.

Bloody Government.

Re: Introductions - tell us about yourself

Hello, all Newbies - welcome to the madhouse.

It would interest me (and I'm the important one in my life) to know where you all reside/live/lodge/camp/squat/inhabit, so a request that you complete this part of your personal information (together with your inside leg measurement).

I can then continue with my Government-funded research program of mapping the locations of Touring Cyclists. It don't pay much, but it's better than working for a living.

Re: Budget solo cycle-camping tent suitable for very tall folks?

Plus 1 for a very old Vango Hydra 200.

I admit to being only 6'4", but I'm bulky with it and there is oodles (technical term) of room for me and panniers inside, plus a porch for any damp gear or for cooking.

An inner and an outer so rather long-winded to pitch (10 minutes) but well worth it when the wind blows: I'm often the only one still secure and standing in the mornings.

Lots available online, secondhand, from about £20 upwards.
