Re: you didn't signal to move out of the cycle lane

I always wonder what those drivers who are surprised by a cyclist moving out round a parked car think is going to happen. ooh I can answer that because Ive experience of this :) the driver expects you to come to a complete stop behind the parked car, and then wait for a gap in the traffic to move a...

Re: Cowering pedestrians -is it just me?

no its not just you, Ive noticed that often with pedestrians at crossings/red lights, they will often warily stare at you even if youve stopped as if as soon as they step in front of you youll just start riding again and hit them. Even when the crossing is green in their favour, and Im just slowly ro...

Re: Velo Midlands

only the once on a sportive have I really experienced that kind of thing, where you had chain gangs & fast riders I would say aggressively overtaking you, and forcibly cutting in front of you when road traffic stopped them making progress, and that went on for nearly 15miles till the groups of r...

Re: Not to mention speed limiters.

you dont have to disable auto stop/start at all, it just works off a KERS battery, once the charge in that battery isnt enough for the cars ECU to judge it can restart and cars starting need lots of amps and especially so in colder weather, it automatically keeps the engine running for you. even if ...

Re: Why not a campaign for 20mph speed limit in Scotland, like Wales?

According to road.cc they won’t be backing the proposal any way because they have decided that it wouldn’t work. It seems very similar to the justification for not bothering with segregation, we have decided it wouldn’t work so we aren’t going to try. Rather ironically they claim “We are now active...

Re: Snarky driver query?

checked the indicators are working ? are you sure it was the first time youd encountered that cyclist that day ? were you inadvertently blocking a cycle lane ? it sounds an odd thing to do to filter right side and then turn left in front of you like that, but we can only just guess trying to work ou...

Re: Velo Midlands

That is very sad news indeed. That would have happened some distance beyond the pit stop I was at. it was just 5miles before the main pitstop 1,as one of my friends did the ride and said theyd been discussing it with other riders at the first pitstop area they stopped at that they came to quite soo...

Re: Bad nether squish!

Whereas this is "news" it isn't new. Google "Steve Hogg sensitive issues" and "Steve Hogg more sensitive issues" To use Hannah Dines' own phrase, she is "sitting right on the money" in the photo in the article. Most riders get into an aero tuck using a combin...

Re: Close pass - am I overreacting or should I take a stand ?

Who was assaulted? It was a very close pass by an idiot of a van driver. That's all. Report it to the company. I believe the technical law description of assault, or common assault at least, which gets a bit legalese to be fair in all its ins and outs, but the summary is an assault is commited when...

Re: What is stopping women from cycling?

I read a comment on this article about how it is not possible to cycle in skirts and heels, and that carrying luggage is out of the question on a bike. It reminded me of riding through a Dutch town on a tour and being overtaken by a young lady in a short skirt and heels, she didn’t want to wait beh...

Hi ...they are incentivised to drive between their set routes Regulation (EC) 561/2006 "CHAPTER III LIABILITY OF TRANSPORT UNDERTAKINGS Article 10 1. A transport undertaking shall not give drivers it employs or who are put at its disposal any payment, even in the form of a bonus or wage supple...

Re: Did this bus pass close enough?

Thanks all for the feedback. Having read your various comments, I decided to take the plunge and report it to Sussex Police's Operation Crackdown. We'll see if anything comes of it. It's possible that the bus was operating a Rail Replacement service (something I've had issues with before). At the t...

Re: What is stopping women from cycling?

Id be amazed if anyone in the NL felt they needed a camera to ride a bike with, whereas I feel in the UK its become a virtual necessity [...] I feel that's overgeneralising. Many places in the UK are fine, so you see few cameras on bikes. I keep mine mainly so I don't need to stop to photograph thi...

Re: Did this bus pass close enough?

you should report it definitely IMO, the reg plate is clearly visible so its identifiable, which isnt always the case with videos I can assure you, but whether you do is still up to you. but that looks close, which means in real life it was even closer, and its fast, and its a big vehicle, thats qui...

Re: What is stopping women from cycling?

Here's a thought,I wonder what percentage of cyclists in the UK use a camera to record their everyday journey, especially in cities, and why? Compare that percentage figue with NL cyclists. Id be amazed if anyone in the NL felt they needed a camera to ride a bike with, whereas I feel in the UK its be...
