Re: Advice re cycle path, Worcester.

Thanks. Did it last week cycling from Brandsford to Diglis bridge and beyond.. So much better than the main road and that horrendous roundabout.

Re: Advice re cycle path, Worcester.

Thank you. The last time I cycled it was about 5 years ago and it was quite a mud path.

Advice re cycle path, Worcester.

Can someone who knows the cycle route 46 in Worcester please advise if the short stretch of path between the end of the Old rd after it passes over the river Teme, and the Hams Way footbridge is a tarmac / gravel or muddy dirt track. Google maps, street view is showing it as a muddy track unsuitable for road bike but wondering if its been improved after the building of the footbridge.
Thanks in advance.

tier 2 and 3 rules. seeking your thoughts

Cycling UK state:
For groups from ‘Medium’ or ‘High’ areas, you are permitted to ride into a ‘Very high’ area as part of your route, however you should not stop for a break while in that area.

For groups from ‘Very high’ areas, you are permitted to ride into ‘Medium’, ‘High’ or other ‘Very high’ areas as part of your route, however you should only stop for a break while within your own area.

I live in a tier 2 area. My cycling club and other members live in a tier 3 area. Now according to the cycling UK 'rules' I can meet my fellow cyclists (max. 6 in a group) but if they stop in a tier 3 area for a break, I cannot, and visa versa.

Further UK gov rules state:
you can continue to travel to venues or amenities which are open, but should aim to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible. There is no reference in this paragraph to the location of the venue, tier 1, 2, or 3.

So the quesion is, is cycling UK correct in its interpretation of the rules and secondly does the word ' travel' so often used in the advice and legislation really meant to apply to cyclists . or even walking or running. (ie, exercise)

Re: Bizarre Covid Lockdown campaigning by Cycling UK.

The government havent specified a time or distance limit so why ask if there is one? Justifying existence perhaps? This will only make someone in government who knows nothing about cycling make a decision plucked out of thin air... bit like the 1st lockdown.

Don't take it personally - 'Oh you won't be insured' is an oft quoted phrase used by numerous people to put people off doing things.
I'd be happy to lead a group cycling without insurance for me as leader and without anyone being insured.
I'm anti-insurance and trying to combat the rising tide of people so risk averse they do nothing exciting.

Being also anti insurance the ONLY reason I am a member of CUK is to allow me to ride with my fellow club members for which I must be insured. So to hike the over 65 club 'fee' from £29 to £48 will mean I will look for suitable cheaper insurance, or as some have suggested lets just get together and ride without insurance. Bye bye CUK.

I think you mean statistically robust and it easily could be, if the survey wasn't self-selecting. About 1500 people is often used to estimate the views of 66 million on very divisive questions, so 4000 members should be OK for estimating the views of 73,000 (or whatever today's membership figure is).

I agree it's a big hike and I think it could have been handled better.

I e-mailed CUK 10 days ago for information about the survey and have not received a reply. CUK have used the survey to justify a hike for those over 65, but there is nothing at all about houshold subscriptions being means tested. Are households a special category deserving of reduced rates? I think your comment about handling this better is generous.

Re: Membership rates

Now that the CUk have proposed at the AGM to remove the concessionary rate for those aged 65 and over, this will mean an increase from the current rate of £29? to £48. The proposal is, according to them based on a survey of approx 5000 people, 1000 being non members. Not exactly statistically significant. This is a massive hike. CUK will then means test a concessionary rate for those on benefits. Isnt it in the best interest of CUK to encourage those over 65 to cycle for health reasons instead of discouraging them. Although I am not against a level playing field for all those that can afford it, shouldnt CUK also consider a level playing field for the household rate. A family of 2 adults and 2 children will pay a household rate of £75 per year. If they paid sepatately it would be £140 per year. Why should 2 working adults with children get a discount?

Courrier for the bike from JOG to home. Bus to Wick. Train to Inverness. Flight to Birmingham. Cheaper than train at the time.

Re: Rain damaged Brooks saddle.

From personal experience and that of many of my fellow cyclists, Brooks are a very good company with excellent after sales. You posted this on Saturday and its now monday so I assume this happened recently. Give then a call and ask their advice. Did you 'proof' the saddle before use?

Re: Any suggestions for a good front camera?

Go Pro hero 7 currently on black friday deal at £129.99 at Argos. I have Hero +. Pictures good, number plates readable. 2+ hours battery life. Easily switches on and off "on the go". However make sure you get a good handlebar attachment. I bought cheap plastic which cracked and Go Pro fell off. . Fortunately it was so robust it did not damage. Subsequently bought metal attachment. Loops easily. Also you can use it off bike so when you do the sky dive, bungee jump etc you get quality recordings :D :D :D .
