Re: Bells Palsy

HI John, My best wishes to you for a speedy recovery. Corticosteroids are effective as I found out recently in respect to another condition. Here's to you getting up and cycling again soon. Kind regards Dennis Hello, As if I do not have enough medical conditions to deal with. I have now been affecte...

Re: India - taking bikes on train?

Some tips based on my experiences touring South India as a NRI (non resident Indian citizen): Have a week to acclimatise to the new environment when you reach India. Do some short bicycle rides to get the logic of traffic organisation in India (there is one!) Take a Water To Go bottle (or two) and d...

Re: India - taking bikes on train?

Regarding the route - I hear what you say about the boringness of some of the coastal roads so I'll have another look at the south-eastern section. Accommodation (already booked!) can be altered without charge until a few days before departure. Sadly there is no Google street view in India so I hav...

Re: visa more than 30 days for China

Yes, an attested invitation letter from a Chinese national together with photocopies of both sides of their national id card. If memory serves me well this information is somewhere in the CVASC website. We all applied from the CVASC in London. No need for stating the other stuff, but some of the of...

Re: visa more than 30 days for China

Hi, In 2017 my son who has a UK passport got a 2 year visa with a 90 day limit on each visit. This is how it was done: I have an Indian passport and at that time (2017) and prior I had university of Sheffield short duration work in Nanjing for several years, obtaining the usual academic visa for Chi...

Re: snapped brake boss/pivot on fork

Another option would be to use a 75mm drop nutted brake caliper such as the Dia Compe 806 .. available for a paltry 16.99 from SJS ... fixed via the central mudguard hole. I have used this on a steel touring fork and it works well. But would of course require removal of the 'good' boss on the other...

Re: Valverde.......A Worthy Winner............

Why the (Banned 2008-10 appx)? It seems to imply that even though a person serves a punishment (perhaps, in any sphere of life) they are still not absolved. I thought that justice is served in the punishment unless, of course, the common consensus is that no crime can ever be forgiven.

Uneven braking surface?

In years gone by there were rims with anodised braking surfaces, such as the Mavic Mach 2CD2, Mavic Reflex, etc. After some time the braking markings would indicate that, under braking, the braking surface was not in one plane, more so in the rear wheel. I can't find a better link than the one below...

Re: Spain - North to South

Hi Chris, Choosing which summer month is important. June to August can be extremely hot. For example, this June temperatures in the northern Castilla y Leon province where I cycle toured were in the mid to high 30s by the early afternoon, resulting 'madura' forearms (blistering of the skin from bein...

Re: Query about taking a bicycle to India

Thanks, Simon, for the re-assuring information. I'm taking over a beaten up but robust steel mtb tourer so in the event it's inspected the customs people maybe will bracket me as 'a strange, poor and old traveller'

Query about taking a bicycle to India

This query is not about actually transporting a bicycle to India for a tour. It is more about how Indian customs officials record (or not) the temporary importation of a bicycle. Do they stamp your passport to ensure that said bicycle is taken back to the home country? I ask this question as I am pl...
