Re: Rehook

So much gumph with cycling these days. In spite of owning many bikes, those made for me by the likes of Major Nichols, Mercian and Bob Jackson ( not to mention one or two titanium road bikes) my greatest pleasure was a £2.50 Dawes five speed win Campag Gran Sport, Weinmann 999 brakes etc renovated a...

Re: Rehook

Ok I’m going on Dragons Den with a brilliant idea, it’s called ‘Knowing how to adjust your FD so your chain does come off. I reckon I could make trillions at lunch time down in Canary Wharf where there are plenty of those with all the gear and no idea.

Re: Rehook

Just seen this on Dragons Den, waste of money. I always carry surgical gloves in my small saddle tool bag on the rare occasion the chain derails. But then I wear cycling gloves so no dirty greasy fingers. But the urbanites will buy them and then someone will knick them in a second and sell them on E...

Re: Aching left Arm

Just seen this, my symptoms similar to Mick F; LEJOG was a real pain. But yes, 20 miles in to a ride bingo-left arm pain. None of us are symmetrical and I know my left arm is slightly longer. I also threw the javelin at a senior club level thirty years ago and did sustain several injuries to left ar...

Re: Supplies along the way

James,
Guinness at the end of the day, avoid the amber fluid up here in Scotland, you'll struggle in the mornings otherwise. Let me know your time frame when you get north of Perth or Glasgow and ill see if I can intercept you.

Re: Supplies along the way

In Scotland stay in good B and B, have a large bowl of porridge followed by a full Scottish cooked breakfast and you will last through to the evening. Trust me, I know as I cook the stuff and live and cycle in Scotland. By all means survive on tasteless cereal bars but think of the calorific value a...

Re: Prostatitis

Rubbish on TV so thought I would check out the forums. I had what a locus GP diagnosed as a UTI in May 2015. Anti iOS and it went away. Following year same thing ( I had been doing my usual cycling- Sportive and some distance stuff in between regular weekly rides). Another GP,who said it was a UTI. ...

Re: Statins - side effects

Bored watching tv tonight so thought I would troll through the forum and came across this. Mick, I would never take statins apart from the fact I had a major heart attack nine years ago and have been on simvastatin ( and a shed load of other drugs) ever since. I hate chuck pills down my throat but i...

Re: wild camping the LeJog

Ali, No probs in Scotland where I live but if you can give me some idea of your intended route you may be able to access independent hostels and bothies. By mid Sept midges should be on the way oot and weather can often be pleasant with early Autumn high pressure. Happy to help as am only 1 hour awa...

Re: CARLISLE TO EDINBURGH

Many thanks Mick, I think daughter will opt for route other than A7 heading to Edingburgh; you are right about distances, not a lot between Carlisle and Edinburgh and Abington servicesfor accomodation a short day this time of year
