Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

The UK government has offered to make the UK/EU border in Ireland a special case. It'll be interesting to see if the EU allows this. If it does it is accepting that all rules can be ignored if it is convenient to do so. That will make the EU's hard line approach on other matters even less tenable. ...

Re: Dishwasher or Tumbledryer?

OK, let's stick to the second. We live in the affluent Western world, and as such enjoy far more luxuries than our fair share. Take that as a 'given', not much is going to change in the foreseeable future. Not everyone lives in your affluent western world. Some people manage to live with out either...

Re: Dishwasher or Tumbledryer?

As it is drought ridden it wouldn't be the dryer! It was my dig at the shallowness of what is reported and put in newspapers. The angst over being given a choice of two items that are in essence luxuries. Like those fretting that their smartphone is over 6 months old and how will they be viewed by ...

Re: Dishwasher or Tumbledryer?

I have been wondering whether to start a thread called *we love the Grauniad* :o It has a lot of interesting stuff about railways, cycling, the North of England Correspondent reports regularly from Wales... If the North of England correspondent does report regularly from Wales then he's not much of...

Re: Self driving cars (and cyclists).

You don't actually need an accident for traffic jams to occur. They occur when there is a set amount of traffic on the road. The front car slow down the next car reacts and brakes , the following car brakes harder a concertina effect takes place. With say the 10th car stopping completely. The depart...

Hardly unusual (bail) my druggy brother got bail for breaking into the house and stabbing someone.

Re: Dishwasher or Tumbledryer?

I am happy...ish with my £17 a month electricity bill so I wouldn't buy either. Alas there was a dishwasher in the house when I bought it from 70 year old lady. I use it roughly every 3 months roasting pan, frying pan. As everything is supposed to be rinsed first the dishwasher does not appear to be...

As a relative newcomer, you probably haven't worked your way through much of this thread (nor have I!) - but you may have noticed a mixture of the flippant, the serious, the prejudiced, and the frankly absurd.... OK, to be serious for once. If I'm reading the news reports right, more and more peopl...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Brexit eliminates foreign influence in our law making giving us the freedom to make all our own laws about everything. Rupert Murdoch told Theresa May to put Michael Gove back in the cabinet which she duly did. You think his influence will stop when we leave the EU? How do you know that? What has M...
